We will be travelling with family in a hire vehicle. Can anyone tell me what road do you take from
Chambers Pillar to the
Lambert Centre without going back to the highway. I am asking this question as the hire company will not allow us to travel on the old Ghan
Heritage road from Titjikala to Finke

None that I can think of unless you are able to access private property

You can't get to
Chambers Pillar from the highway, you have to enter from Maryvale.

Llyod
The shortest route from Titjikala to
Lambert Centre by not going to Finke is to use the Hugh River Stock Route about 35k north of Titjikala to get to the H/wy, then south to
Kulgera and then the Finke Rd to the Lamberts

Thanks Murray haven’t been that way from
Chambers Pillar to the highway down to
Kulgera and into The
Lambert Centre. Adds more kms but won’t have a choice if we are not allowed to travel the Old Ghan
Heritage road. Cheers Lloyd

The Hugh River Stock Route is/was a good road.

I don't understand how he's getting to
Chambers Pillar when the hire car isn't allowed on the Old Ghan Road. The road is the same around
Rodinga as it is further down near Finke.

I'm guessing that the hire company may have been spooked by the anecdotal reports of lots of punctures from old rail spikes on that section of the track??

I can't recall because it's been a few years but I've done the road 3 or 4 times and I don't see that much difference along it. I've thrown up a few rail spikes myself. :-)

They are real :)
Wether they cause a lot of punctures is another question.

I remember the first time one hit the bottom of the car, I thought something had broken.

Chambers Pillar is off the Old South Road /Maryvale Road
The hire company would most likely be concerned on the track mentioned on top of the old Ghan railway line

I unfortunately can state that the smaller railway spikes do go thru your tyre

It's fairly wet in the centre at the moment and if you're travelling on the Hugh river Stock Route you have to cross through the hugh River . not to mention all the other roads flooded if your intentions were to travel anytime soon not mentioned
Central Australian River

Roads, thanks for replies. Will be travelling in July so hopefully most roads will be ok. Have been from Alice to Finke 3 times and there are heaps of railway spikes, just needed to concentrate while driving to dodge the ones standing up. Still waiting for a reply from hire company but these spikes could be one reason why we cant go from Titjikala to Finke on the Old Ghan.
