I bought a 2001 Triton 2 days ago and new to 4x4. I drove it straight to mechanic for a service because it was sitting around for nearly a year. When driving it
home I saw the wheel lock light on. And since then I can’t get it off.
I reversed up
hill out of our driveway and there was a huge clunking sound near the rear, and the rear wheels did a shuddery skidding action. Now not sure what to do now. Light remained on while driving all day. Not game to reverse again!
Note I never entered 4wd it was on in 2wd when I picked it up from service, and light wasn’t on when I bought it.
This Ute has auto lock, but I was wondering can you manually unlock them? Or is something else going on? Maybe it’s really still in 4wd?

Hi Luke.
Try jacking both front wheels off the ground. You may have "lock up" in the front diff.

Has it got manual free wheeling hubs? If so, turn to “Free” until you get the 4WD problem sorted. Otherwise remove front driveshaft, remembering to mark or centre pop the position of the flanges on the TC & front diff.

I think its might be stuck in 4x4 because turning circle is pretty bad as
well. and i think that is an indicator. but why would the 4x4 light go off if its still in 4x4?

Dirty electrical connectors do this sort of thing. Try to find the connector/s on the transmission, remove it and spray it and its partner with contact cleaner and see how you go.

Has it got a rear diff lock by any chance. It could be stuck on! I reckon you'd notice "Wind Up" in the steering if it was stuck in 4WD.
