in my owner's manual it states when 4 wd is engaged, front ETC is disabled. This sounds weird. Does anyone know if it is correct?

Is it 4L or locking differential?

My Mazda BT50 does the same if you put it in low and/or lock the rear diff, the traction control and stability control are disabled.

It didn't make sense to me as I figured the locked diff and traction control would give the best of both worlds, but that's how they programmed it.

Hoyks,

Your and my BT50's are the same vintage. The Ford Ranger, on which they are based, changed that in the PX2, where the front traction control was retained when low range or rear diff lock were engaged. I don't know if Mazda picked that up. That did indeed give the best of both worlds to the PX2.

I think Mazda tried to keep the BT50 as the budget option to the Ranger, so didn't take the software upgrade to the traction control as an option.
