Evening folks

At the present time I am in the process of planning a trip up to Cape York in mid 2005. As part of the preparation I have been studying the maps. I am intending to travel up to Cooktown via the CREB track then up the Cooktown McIvor River Road, then along Battle Camp Road and then back onto the Peninsular Development Road Has anyone been up that way lately. Especially on the CREB track.

Has anyone got any thoughts on this...

Mate ... I'll watch this post with interest as we're off up that way next Wednesday.
A few work stops at Maryborough, Rocky and Shoalwater Bay then it's off to the Cape for a tad more work (brief visit) at the various communities. Might even get a chance to have a quick look around. Planning on 6 weeks.

Bastard of a job ... but someone's gotta do it.

What a mongrel ............ :-))))))

I was talking to you a few months ago about going up the Cape. I was inquiring about going over to the Skardon River.
I have just got back from the cape yesterday. Well the bad news is you can forget about that little side trip. The mines have closed the track permanently. Apparently campers were out there without permits and shot and killed every thing that moved. So the mines in there infinite wisdon have said, well no more.

If you have any questions get back to me.
Geoff.

Gidday Rossco

You'll will have to keep us posted about your trip. Let us know what the road conditions are and such like. I am actually going out to Dalby ( not far away, I live out here at Oakey) either this weekend or the next to talk to a bloke who goes up there each year. I guess the more info I can get the better off I shall be.

Which way are you heading up?

At this stage the plan is to go up via Cape Trib and return via the Creb. Not sure whether it's open and I have been led to believe it's an easier run heading South, as we'll be towing a CT. Lotsa ppls have said NO GO with a CT, but then again lotsa have said they've been there done that.

So I guess we'll just play it by ear when we get there. Will keep ya posted on our return. Don't have a laptop, and anyway even if we did I don't fancy hooking it up to the sat phone.

Cheers

We went up that way a couple of years ago. I know that doesn't help with track conditions now but we did some out of the way places that were a great experience. Full trip report on my website

The track is currently shown as closed and also closed according to the Qld EPA site [http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/] and look under Park/forest closures.

If the CREB is closed try the Bloomfiels as it is a very attractive drive right on the coast withja number of beautiful creek crossings. It is still difficult after some rain but at least it is open all the time.

Hi Swerv

The Creb Track is closed, it's locked at the 2 gates.
We heard from friends "in the know" that some people had shot cattle in there and that is the reason it is now closed.
I suppose you could still ask the Cairns Electricity mob, they can only say yes or no.

Hope this helps. :)
