I have a Samsung S9 and just had the battery replaced with a genuine Samsung battery.
While we are on holidays I have been using the Traveller app.
I have the Samsung S9 connected to a USB port in the car when we are moving.
However I find that the battery LOW light starts flashing after around 3 hrs and after 5 hrs of running Traveller I have to switch the S9 off and recharge the battery.
Is there anyway I can reduce the battery drain while using Traveller, short of switching Traveller off ?

The S9, I believe, is capable of charging at 3 amps. Many older USB sockets were about 1 amp, I think, with newer ones 2.1 amps.
Perhaps your solution lies in getting more charge to the phone.

Hi Genny, I am currently connected to the USB port on the center console of a 2020 Landcruiser.
I will check the output of the USB port in the car manual.
It may be too low.
Maybe there is another way of providing power to the phone.
Cheers

.
Yes George, you would not be watching the screen the whole time so in Settings, decrease the backlight time. The screen will dim after a time leaving the program to run, but will awaken with a tap.

Thanks Allan, did not think of that.
I will try that and see if it will save battery time.

Hello George, I found on my Hilux that the USB port doesn't charge my phone. I think it just connects directly to the radio, however my phone will always lose charge if plugged into it. I just bought a double USB adapter for the (cigarette) plug and have no issues charging phone and running dashcam at the same time.

Hi George,
I Run a Samsung A7 full time with Traveller on it & the USB charging outlet in our DMax would not keep it charged & running. We would only get a few hours before the tablet would shut down. I'm thinking the output isn't sufficient. Probably your issue also.
We ended up using a cigarette USB adaptor with a higher output.
All works good now. Stays full charged & runs all day.

George I had the same issue, I now use one of those cylinder type Weico 100w
inverters and have no more problems. I continually upgraded my USB ports to the most powerful I could get, and upgraded the cables to the heavier duty ones, helped a bit but I still lost power after a few hours of continual use. The inverter has been the savior.

Thanks Duncan, your solution fixed the problem.
Purchased a 100 w inverter and connected with that
Been driving all day with Traveller running on my S9.
No problem with battery remained fully charged.
Thanks for your help. Cheers

Although the problem was solved with an inverter, you can get higher capacity USB adapters from Jaycar that can supply 3.7 A. I also see that you can now get a fast charger that plugs into a ciggie socket. I had a similar problem with a Lenovo tablet even using the 3.7 A adaptor. No issues with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. Could it possibly have been temperature problem? My previous S7 phone would overheat when using a screen mount.
