Your old Android Marshmallow must be getting fairly stale by now. It was released on October 2, 2015. Can you upgrade to a later version. If you go to the EO store they say in the FAQs:

Traveller is not a “light app” so you should avoid using budget or older devices that are only designed for general everyday use for calling, browsing, or light apps. The quality of the hardware inside your device will have a very big effect on your satisfaction with the user experience. The difference between a cheap device and more expensive device is often the speed of the CPU and the type of System on Chip (SoC). Low RAM can result in freezing and even app crashing and slow CPU can result in lagging and poor response. Whilst the app store will permit low-spec devices to install the app, the performance is not guaranteed as each device has these hardware differences. It is up to you to determine what device you wish to use. Minimum Android OS is Android 7.

Are you sure it doesn't have GPS because all Samsung 10" tablets, (even wifi only), have had inbuilt GPS receivers since at least 2011 with the first Galaxy Tab 10.1? Perhaps you are getting confused with GPS maps which don't come on any tablets and have to be installed?

Probably nothing in the settings as it is only accessed by the App you run.

Try and pick a gps application that's compatible with your version of Android. Osmand is open street maps for android and is compatible with Android 6.0 and up so should work. I think your tablet came with Android 4.

BTW, Android will only upgrade to a certain limit on most devices so as your tablet gets older, the upgrades no longer apply and you then can't get newer software from the play store. Apple and Microsoft do the same thing so there's no escaping it on any platform.

It looks like the Traveller app needs Android 7 so you're out of luck.

Hi

Download an Android GPS "test" App. Here is one of the best (apparently), but there are others.. that way you will know it is working or not.

GPS Status & Toolbox

Cheers

Copied from System Requirements directly from the Traveller webpage (https://www.exploroz.com/traveller)

There is also a section on that page about "What is the best device to use".

Michelle - in this post you said "If you have Traveller currently on an old phone/tablet/headunit running Android 6 you will not be able to update to Traveller v7 but can keep using v6.6.2." Could someone with an older tablet coming new to EOT still access 6.6.2?

No Briste, the app stores on ly offer one version of the app as a download - the latest version that the developer has published.

I have been running EO Traveller on a Galaxy TAB A 10" (2017) tablet for several years and found it quite satisfactory but the new version has slowed things down quite a bit, particularly boot time and the time taken for the map to load. Things like setting up a trek or route are also quite slow. But once that is all done and I am on the road, tracking, speed, altitude and the rest work quite normally and the maps zoom in and out without delay.

I am getting around the slow time to set up routes by creating them on my Galaxy S10 and then updating treks on the tablet so that the new trek is available to use.

But I am keeping my eye on the current release of Galaxy S22 tablets. They are available for pre-order but I won't buy one until I can hold it in my hand to try it out.
