Hi All
We are doing a trip up to the Kimberley in September this year and currently have a few days to spare.
We are scheduled to leave Kununurra on 16 Sept and are not due at Windjana Gorge until 22 Sept, so we have around 6 days to "kill".
We were going to stay at Home Valley and then Honeymoon Beach (Kalumburu), however, both are apparently closed this season so we need to make other arrangements.
We will be towing an offroad camper trailer & would love to spend a few day away from civilisation if possible, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If Mornington Wilderness Camp is open that is a good spot to spend a few days, also Mt Elizabeth. Both have very good campgrounds and facilities and the various drives and swimming opportunities available are also excellent.

No, Mornington is closed for 2022, Dunc. Was on our bucket for May/June this year.

Mitchell Falls (and King Edward river on the way), assuming the road up beyond Drysdale Stn is open.

Just be aware that the "road" into Mitchell Falls is really really bad. It is not a maintained road. We broke 2 rear shocks on our drive in/out and couldn't get them replaced until we got to Darwin! Other travellers we met flew into APT's camp from Drysdale River Station and then helicopter to the falls. Expensive sure but otherwise I would skip Mitchell Falls.

Mitchell falls road can be bad but is actually graded from time to time. When we were up there is was a smooth road.

When we first went many moons ago there were not that many people and we did it without itinerary. Rocked up at camps and stations and there would be spots available.
Not so anymore, with many closed (Mornington) there is more pressure on the others and these days become fully occupied early in the day.
I suggest therefore that you plan and book.
Judging from your profile you are well enough set up to go to Mitchell falls.Camp at King E river and daytrip up, the road can be bad sometimes but should not deter you from doing it.
