I am using the older Tab A8 running Android 9 and 2Gb memory. It doesn't render the maps as quickly as ones with the newest chips and larger memory, but I'm still happy with it as it does the job.

Samsung's Tab A series are entry level tablets. The Active 3 is a different beast, being designed primarily for business use. It certainly has some desirable attributes but they don't necessarily guarantee suitability. The specs suggest it will be ok but there are unknowns such as graphics and processor performance that can only be resolved by expert knowledge of the device (not me!) or by trying it.

I was under the impression that as with iPads the 4g version has a dedicated GPS whereas the wifi only version relies on towers.

No, Bricky, someone has given you duff gen. Wi-Fi only Samsung tablets have a full GPS. That's why they don't need a GPS mouse like wi-fi only iPads do.

It will run the programme easily. This tablet is a lot quicker than the older models and has received excellent reviews. . I would get one with 4g in it to make it even easier to use when on the road.

Thanks for the reply. Great to know. I will be ordering one this morning. The 4gig relates to ROM, and I thought this was the only option for ROM. Whereas there are two options for RAM, being 64gig and 128gig. PC mart have the 128gig RAM version in special for an extra $5 compared to the 64gig RAM.

It has 4GB of RAM.
4G refers to the ability to connect to a 4G mobile network.
Either 64 0r 128gb of ROM

yOU WILL NOTICE THE 4g IS ABOUT $150-$200 DEARER BECAUSE IT CAN CONNECT TO A MOBILE NETWORK.

Thanks for clarification. I thought you were referring to ROM.
I wont be getting the mobile network version as I can simply hotspot to my mobile on the odd occasion when needed.
Thanks

Hi Adams Family,

Based on my experience I think you'll find that the desirability of a mobile connection will be way more than the odd occasion.

If you can afford it I strongly recommend you get the 4G version.

Just my 2c worth.

Cheers

If you are carrying a phone with a reasonable amount of data allowance or a wireless modem, I consider a tablet with 4G connection a WOFTAM. Tether the tablet to your phone of modem and save the extra cost of the phone internet connection.

Thanks Peter. I do have a mobile with unlimited data. As such , I can simply hotspot when needed. In my case of camping once a month, I have no need for the additional expense of a second mobile plan to pay for each month. Each person has a different scenario.
