Hey, So my 1hz troopy, 97, has had the dash lights out for a bit. About a month. I had a wiring malfunction a bit ago and had to re-do the entire harness to the engine bay.
The dash lights stayed on the whole time. Then after the fix they remained on until about a month later they flickered a bit, over bumps etc, then they're off. Even the solenoid for the glow plugs wont kick in. So my guess is the alternator, a plug maybe, or an earth. OR, the actual solenoid switch.
Just after some thoughts.

OKay, love everyones replies.
So I had a week look yesterday. Finally had a minute. And its the small oval plug into the back of the alternator. one of the wires has severed at the base of the plug. So Im going to have to order a new plug and wire it into the existing loom... I'm going to replace some of the loom as it's pretty knackered from old oil etc... I've already re-wired some of the loom back to the fuel tanks from the starter side and under the batteries.
So, my Wednesday I'll be elbows deep in solder and copper I feels.
If there is anything else I should consider I'd love a heads up.

.
Some of those plugs can be tricky to connect to existing wiring and can even require special tools. If you can obtain a plug with wire tails attached it may make for easier installation. Such may perhaps be obtained cheaply from a wrecker.

Truth. One of the guys I work with suggested just re seating the wires. I'm good to be honest. A new plug is about $20, or there's been some excellent suggestions which I'll likely try out. I've got zero desire to muck around with trying to pull wires out of the plug haha.
thanks for the excellent
feedback. Appreciate it.

Try an auto sparky, quite often replacement alternators come with adaptor harnesses and most of us end up with a range of various unused ones.
Just remember as long as those lights are on the alternator is probably not charging or even worse over charging.
In a pinch you can get speaker sized individual crimps that you can use to get out of trouble to buy time if you have no other transport, just put an insulating sleeve over the centre one to prevent any mishaps and disconnect the battery before doing anything.

of course! genius. I didn't even think of that. I've actually got a couple of tubs of spare elec clips. And yes thanks!!!! But I wont be doing that, filming in some back country locations right now, so I cant risk getting stuff wet. Im just manually warming the glowplugs at the minute.
Solid point about the alt too and the dash lights. you've made me want to
test the alternator output to make sure it's not doing weird stuff.
Big help! Thank you
