Good morning all you caravaners,
To the Travellers that have a swift 500
cook top in there vans has any one heard about them blowing up and is there a national recall on them. Also if there is does it apply to the oven type like
cook top and oven or does it only apply to those that have just a
cook top only ??
looking forward to your replies.

This may help:
The ACCC has just revealed a recall notice has been issued for Model Numbers: 502BHSP, 502BHFW, 502DHSP, 502RHSP, 502SHFW, 502SHW, 502WBHSP, 503BHSPM, 503BHSP, 503BHSPMLG, 503BHSW, 503DHSP, 503RHSP, 503SHSPM, 503SHSW and 503BHSPN. This affects models supplied to customers from January 1, 2019, until June 1, 2020.

I believe this matter has been badly handled by all parties (ACCC, Swift, caravan manufacturers and sales outlets). The blanket ban was applied by the ACCC via their original direction to Swift Appliance Group; that direction being shared by Swift Appliance Group with their customers on 8 Jun 2022 (see
https://www.swiftappliancegroup.com.au/). Subsequently ACCC issued a direction / recall (
https://www.productsafety.gov.au/recalls/casale-trim-co-pty-ltd-tas-swift-group-%E2%80%94-500-series-cookergrill-and-cooktops) dated 23 Jun 2022) which could easily be interpreted as limiting the application of the original direction to Swift Appliance Group to certain (listed) model numbers which were available for sale to Caravan, Camper and Motorhome manufacturers (between) 1 Jan 2019 - 1 Jun 2020. There was no mention of the previous ACCC direction to Swift that all models were not to be used. One could argue that the original total ban on use of all models notified to manufacturers by Swift (8 June) still applies as the ACCC recall (23 June) now only applies to those models sold between 1 Jan 2019 - 1 Jun 2020. One could equally argue that the blanket "do not use" notice (8 June) has been "modified" by the ACCC notice dated 23 June to only apply to certain models. I am aware of manufacturers who have notified customers that the latter interpretation applies. That is, only identified models sold between specific dates are affected. I have tried and tried to contact Swift Appliances Group but to no avail.

Thanks Errol.
I agree with your points. I too have tried unsuccessfully to contact Swift for clarification. I have also emailed the ACCC and await their reply.
The ACCC originally contacted Swift to make them aware of the problem. Swift contacted its customers and told them that they had been advised by the ACCC of a total ban of Swift 500s. Some of those customers were caravan manufactures who have contacted their customer base. The ACCC has now published the recall list which limits the scope of the problem. I am not aware of the original ban being made publicly available. So, any second-hand purchasers are "in the dark". If they hear of the problem (in van parks, forums, etc.) and subsequently look online for recall information, the only official notice they will find will be the limited recall notice, which will exclude many installations. Those excluded will think that their appliance safe to use.
I agree - it's a mess !!!
