Yes it's possible. The Traveller app tracks you without membership but you have to export the tracking data to draw the map of your trip (called a Track Log) so you do this after your journey. There is however a short bit of your tracking showing on the map as you go, called the Snail Trail but this auto trims from the start after 2000 positions - its useful for backtracking.

If you upgrade to a Member account, ALL your positions sync to a map on the server for you to view your entire trip as you go (there is an option in Traveller to view your server tracking map)...and let's you share with friends/family who might want to follow your trip progress.

Probably the best thing you can do to maximise convenience and useability of the whole system that is the back end to Traveller is to pay the $40 for the first year's membership and then the $25 annual renewal.
