Article Review: ExplorOz Traveller

Wondering if it's just me..
I have this app installed on 3 separate devices but the problem occurs on all of them.
All good until I stop for 5 minutes or more.
When I get going again, the arrow will stay showing the stopped position and the speed and heading numbers will be zero.
Sometimes it will "catch up " at some future time, but usually I have to close the whole app, wait for 15 minutes or so, then reopen the app again.
Any ideas please?

You can either turn off the "activity recognition" if you are using an external GPS. Or if there is an internal GPS in the device it will trigger itself but if you don't wish to wait for it to wake up, you can simply tap the GPS icon at the top of the status line (it will be orange when paused - tap it to go green).

To locate the activity recognition settings in Traveller go to Settings - Advanced (very bottom) - Activity Recognition Settings - then ONLY change the one that is "disableStopdetection" by default it is FALSE but you can change this to True. This should really only be required for some external GPS receivers on some devices where the stop detection logic isn't working automatically as you describe. Otherwise use the other method.

Interesting one liner, Shares maybe LOL.

Used it for years, great program, can’t see myself going back to it.

OziExplorer is a bullet proof moving map programme and from the issues people are having with the Traveller app, yes the concept sounds great but it sounds like there are many issues and causing issues for many users.

Sounds like you are a happy user of the Traveller app, any reasons why you would not go back?

I have been using Ozi for nearly 20 years and if I had the problems others are reporting, I would not be a happy Chappy.

For me the whole idea of using Ozi is to accurately record where I go and from what Roachie is suffering, that would really pi… me off.

Just my thoughts.

Stephen

As I said earlier, Ozi is a great program no argument there. I still have it on my Windows based computer but simply have no need to use it.

Yes I am a very happy user of Traveller.

Is Ozi available on IOS as yet? Even if I was I can’t see myself going back to it.

There are pro’s and con’s to both in my opinion. They are both so different with what they deliver.

With all due respect to Roachie, he did not need to do what he was doing.

I guess it’s another Toyota / Nissan, Engle / Waeco, Holden / Ford (is that even a thing now LOL)

Each to their own & what their happy with.

Regards

Firstly Jim

I am an Apple user and nearly 20 years ago purchased my first Windows computer so I could run Ozi.

Trevor

Agree with what you say, but one very big bonus with Ozi……

You can run the dozens of third party topographic maps on Ozi, but can you run them on the Traveller app.

I use many of the very detailed topo maps produced by the Government here in South Australia that are extremely detailed, with some on a 1:25k scale which are brilliant.

As you say each to their own.

Cheers

I wonder what percentage of Traveller users actually have problems - we only hear from the ones that do. Maybe there will come a time when Windows and Android will not be able to run Ozi.
BTW I use Ozi but like some of the features of Traveller so am thinking of adding it to the stable.

In which case, Suitcase, this might interest you.

With a reasonably sized device you can run both apps simultaneously in split screen mode. They each have their advantages. You can slide the vertical divider left and right to give either app more screen as needs determine.

I use a Samsung Tab S6 which has enough grunt, RAM and screen real estate (10.5 inch/266mm) to make it a practical proposition. I have the same setup in my phone (Samsung S21) as a backup. The screen is large enough to run split screen at a pinch, but it is probably better to just swap between the apps and give each the full screen when needed.

When touring I like to see where I am in the big picture of things - my favourite map for that is Westprint Maps' Australian Outback Tracks 1:1M (shown in the screenshot) - and Traveller gives me the zoomed in detail without swapping maps as required in Ozi. Like Stephen L, I also have a large collection of 25k maps for Ozi so between them both I feel I am well covered for navigation.

Cheers

Well Suitcase, I wouldn't know the "percentage of Traveller users having problems". But I sure do see that they are evident to a great extent on this forum. It is becoming a Help Desk for them!

I don't have any problems using EO Traveller. I tried it, but like Stephen, I went back to OziExplorer. It suits my needs completely without complexity.

As for having both Apps on screen..... Geez Frank, do you get to look at the outside scenery? lol

Cheers
