This isn't common, but in heavy downpour I've had massive water pooling, I'm guessing that since rx5 has a bigger surface and in a heavy downpour it just starts to accumulate so fast that instead of running off it pools, I had over 4-5 bucket loads of water pool in there. To oztents credit, I'm impressed that the tent didn't tear or collapse. Has anyone found this problem? Worked out a solid solution?
The only idea I've come up with is using a tarp save like this
https://supapeg.com.au/tarp-saver/ But I really want to avoid having a pole running in the middle of the tent. The attached image shows where the water pools. A c-clip ridgeline would be ideal but there's nowhere to attach it on the tentside. I know it looks like it needs to be tightened but these images are after the stretch, the tent wat pretty taut, image 2 has water in it.

This would be a thing I would put to Oztent themselves. I am interested in an RV3, so I would guess the same problem could arise. But not having leaking after all that rain, I would be happy either way.

I have reached out to oztent, they suggested lowering one side of the owning which would work but being the rx not rv and having the front room zipped in this isn’t a good option. I’m not sure this would even be a problem in the rv3, being a smaller surface area you might not run i to this problem and not having the front room, lowering one side would be much easier. Either way this was only a problem in serious downpour.

Any roof surface that is horizontal has that problem. I use a spare tent pole with a upturned bucket on the end to raise the centre of the roof area when rain is heavy.
That is why caravan awnings also need to be lowered at one end .

It is a pitched roof, but seems like in heavy rain it doesn’t run of quick enough before the build up sags the material. The bucket would do the trick bit I’m looking for something more long term, especially if the rain get heavy while away from the tent.

Why wouldn't you just lower the front poles temporarily when its raining and if leaving
camp for a long period. Many people have the same issue with vans, campers and tents. Heavy rains sees me lower front poles. Not a big effort really. Or do as suggested...just put a bucket on a pole. .

If it was just the awning that would be the way to go, the problem is that the rx version has a whole front room zipped in to where the problem area is, you’d have to lower the circled pole and the the whole side wall turns to floppy canvas.

Looks like the bucket method might have to be the answer. Hopefully someone who actually owns one and has had this issue may help. Have you tried other camping forums . Here are links to 2 facebook forums specifically for Oztent.

Not a bad idea, I don’t have an FB account but definitely worth looking into it, thanks for the links.

I had similar issues in my old camper trailer. My solution was a spreader bar between the 2 poles - the type with a “c” clip on both ends.
Something like this

Was thinking along the same lines Nick. I've seen curved poles like that previously. Looking at the photo the Oztent doesn't appear to have lateral poles to hook it on though.

Hi Konrad,
I have an RV4 with side and front awning walls, (not an RX), and it comes with ridge poles that fit across the middle of the tent between the two side poles. You could try an extra ridge pole and side poles and fit them at the front of the main tent to give extra support for the awning roof.
Macca.
