Hi All
I Want to Upgrade / Replace my current Exhaust from the Cat (Catalytic Converter) back and was wondering how big was big enough? I did the same to my old Duv Duv Ford Laser (Lowered to the bump Stops and Ear Drum splitting Stereo) and that was 2¼’ Dia the Place that installed it said that if I went any bigger I wouldn’t have enough Back Pressure and that I would start to burn exhaust valves out. My first question is, can I go bigger than 2¼‘ on my Pajero as it has a bigger Engine 3.5l as apposed to 1.6l in my ford. And secondly will I see any increased Performance /improvement if I do?
Thanks in Advance

Matt,
In all of my 4wd vehciles thus far (toyota, nissan, suzuki) I have upgraded all of the exhausts. I must admit that although I didn't feel a huge difference in the Tojo and suzi, (pretty standard) my nissan definitely felt the difference. If you
check my specs, you'll see why.
I had a 2.5 fitted straight through when the turbo was fitted but later was told by my current performance dude that 3 inch was much better, and what a change.
For your style of vehicle, you may find a little more power but you will most likely notice the cleaner rev range of the vehicle, breathing much easier IMHO.
Cheers mate,
Chris.

Increased performance will be 'it sounds different' so will feel better.
I went for extractors and 2.5in exhaust on
mine before the turbo, and it made 0 difference. Others will defend their purchase by stating massive increases in power, cause they dont like to admit it was waste of coin.
If your not replacing the complete system, I cant see how there would be difference in power, as its still restricted from the engine to the cat..
Is there a Pajero club in WA? Maybe a call to them may assist.

maybe of use to you they are in Vic, but a few emails from you to them may get you some genuine answers.
Also have a look at
http://www.pps.net.au/dinos4x4/ hes in WA with a modded Paj..
YMMV

Matt,
I've got a 3" on my TD Patrol. In order to have any affect, like Truckster said, it needs to be all the way through the exhaust system. In my case, that included a whole new dump pipe (from Binskins at
Wauchope NSW). The dump pipe alone cost $220- and provides a much bigger appeture (spelling?) right at the turbo outlet, for the gases to escape into the 3" pipe work. Also, I only used a short Lukey hotdog muffler and no resonator at the rear end. It made a noticeable difference to the truck's low-down performance (ie from idle to when the turbo cuts in at around 1800rpm). Noise level has hardly been affected, but it does have a different note to a standard 4.2 T/d
