I can’t remember any Landcruisers that didn’t gurgle when removing the fuel cap, at some stage of their lives. Have also read lately of blokes fuel tanks being sucked in, due to blocked breathers, though I feel this may only have occurred with the later 130L tanks, on both single & dual cab models?
During the ‘70’s, some more senior gentlemen than I, and more experienced too, were often concerned about another valve/breather that is hidden away above the main tank. This little gizmo vented into the chassis, and was often blocked by mud in the chassis or broke away and filled with, mud, dust or wasp nests. Don’t recall if any tanks imploded but do recall these senior gents were more concerned about poor performance from the early asthmatic, Toyota diesel engines.
Have added a couple of images of this hidden valve for those unaware of it’s presence.

Yep, quite normal. I have a 2007 79series ute V8, with two standard 90 lt tanks and it gurgles when removing the cap and always has.

I have done approximately 3k since I have cleaned the breathers in the fuel caps & have had no “gurgling” when removing either fuel cap.
