Hi all I was driving in the dunes today and ran into a problem with my 2003 105 series landcruiser. It's a 1HZ with an after market turbo tuned with a turbo actuator running 12psi. I have only just bought and this was my first weekend testing the car out. Everything was going fine but when I tried going up a dune in L4 gear 3 and everytime I hit the limiter the engine cut out and white smoke came out the exhaust. Does anyone know what's going help would be most appreciated

From memory 12psi is pushing it for a 1HZ, normally 8-10psi max is(was?) the rule.
Not sure about the cutting out. Do you mean the engine stalled or just lost power?

Hi JamesHZJ105R,
Had the same problem on
mine a few years ago. It was the rubber air hose on the inlet side of the turbo being sucked together at high revs stopping air going through. This could be caused by either a blocked air cleaner or, as in my case, the rubber had softened with age.
Solution was to replace with a new hose and problem went away. From memory local truck spare parts
places sell them and they are fairly cheap. Worth replacing the clamps at the same time.

James, 12 psi is too much unless its intercooled. turn it back down or the motor will crack the head. Yeah sounds like the inlet hose as under bonnet would have been toasty.
