I've tried a few offline maps for android auto and the only one that seems to work properly is Google Maps.
You can download the maps to be offline quite easily and effectively.
How to downlaod offline maps for Google Maps

Second the Google Maps option. It is surprisingly good in many remote areas. Just don't believe the travel times or take its advice on route guidance outback!??

Gaia has an Android Auto app, but you have to have an annual subscription to get offline maps. I was under-whelmed by it, it's hard to read in AA, and the Australian maps are pretty basic. It's a US-centric app. But it works.

Unfortunately I had high hopes and payed for it. It is a waste of time, storage and money.
It is ok on the phone but pretty unusable on Android Auto. You cant change the address or any parameters. You have to disconnect, set up a new route then reconnect to Android auto.

I hadn't bothered to try it for route planning, just a visual check of where I am and what's ahead. Stephan Fischer did a highly critical review of Gaia. His main complaint also was that it's hard to read. That was the app version rather than on AA, I think it's worse on AA.

Have a look at Avenza. I don't have extensive experience with it, but needed to download it recently to use a map sent to me to find some specific GPS located trees in the rainforest (part of a scientific survey). No phone signal in the area so needed the maps to be offline. It was so easy, I had a satellite image of the area where the trees were, with each tree marked as a POI so could see them on the screen, together with my position. I think Avenza has lots of free maps, but also some you have to pay to download. The app itself is a free download , so worth having a look. The maps I've seen have been large scale suitable for walking/hiking, & would require downloading a lot of smaller areas to make up WA, but they may have smaller scale maps of larger areas??

If you want offline 4wd app then look at OziExplorer or ExplorOZ but neither will work with Android Auto. If you're after street navigation outside mobile range, then look at Here Maps as you can download all of Australia in one map. Better than the Google maps way of doing things.
