The problem: 1993 200tdi Disco low on power...yes, yes, I know...I mean even lower than normal...

Diesel tuner 1 (the supposedly renowned Cooma Diesel Service...presumably a reputation based on what they USED to be like...): generally lax and unhelpful attitude; pick up car to receive a few random and meaningless numbers on a bit of paper (apparently this is what they call a dyno report...so much for graphs across the rev range c.f. factory specs) and a bill for $185 and the very helpful statement that 'yeah she's a bit down on power' with no suggestions for how to fix it despite my prompting: fuel pump timing? turbo boost? timing belt incorrectly placed?...

Diesel tuner 2 (Queanbeyan Diesel Service): extremely helpful attitude, gave me a list of possible causes and we gradually eliminated some of them and corrected the others (valve clearances, fuel pump timing and turbo boost). Discovered (pardon the pun) a few other "issues" which were promptly fixed and vehicle is now producing the "power" (and I use the term advisedly HG) that it should be...sound value for a similar price to the CDS piece of paper with some numbers on it. A pleasure to hand money over to people who deserve it...

BTW, some of you in the area might be interested in the recently formed ACT All Terrain Club: actatc.4wdnsw.org

Cheers

Pathfinder, excellent country out there. Did some during the fires and the views are to die for. Good luck I'm sure you will get responses. Hell I'll join.

G'day Pathfinder, yeah have heard similar stories about Queanbeyan Diesel showing up Cooma Diesel (being in ACT myself). I did however phone up Dave at CDS with a problem and he diagnosed it over the phone with no fuss and no "just bring it in and we'll look at it" attitude.

Cheers

Hmm sounds promising to me.
How about a contact number for the boys at QDS ?
I'd like to check them out too. Especially after Berrima boys lost me.

It's a real shame when good shops like Cooma and Berrima go down the tubes.

Oh well, just goes to show that no one should ever be too complacent.
