Road closed? No worries.

Be a great drive I’d reckon.

Makes you wonder if the roads are repaired before the start of the tour season?

The pictures that have been put up on Facebook show the Gibb River Road has mini canyons cut through the road and the washed away Fitzroy River bridge, they were saying it could take years to repair.

Good questions Stephen.

I think the priority will be some sort of temporary bridge at Fitzroy Crossing. And then a new one years away.

The WA Main Roads site says there is major damage west of Willare which is expected to take three weeks or so for temporary repairs. And reconstruction will follow.

Same site says there's no access to the Gibb to survey damage at moment.

A lot of people plan their Kimberly trip years in advance. Not looking good this year.

Cheers

Before the new bridge was built in 1974 there was a concrete crossing only accessible in the dry.
A new crossing will be built after the river subsides; a new bridge will take a long time.

All the more credit to him as he did it in a Nissan.

Talking to a mate from near Toowoomba, Dave, who went to the Alice for Christmas. On the return journey, he arrived at Barkly Homestead soon after the big fall, which flooded all the campground. Barkly H’way closed for an indefinite period & no accommodation. All the flooded campers had moved into the rooms!

He headed off back through the Alice, PA, Broken Hill etc back home. Funny, he was in a Nissan too!

Time spent anywhere north of Kalgoorlie is time well spent Bob no matter what your driving.
I'm into detecting so spend time around Halls Creek/ Marble Bar etc. Top country.
Be interesting to see where some of the Croc's end up. :)
Dave.

I wonder if some of the lesser roads remain navigable? Possible route: Broome to Sandfire Flat, Kidson Track to Kunawarritji, then either up the CSR to Halls Creek, or on to Kiwikurra, then around the western edge of Lake Mackay up to Balgo, Bililuna, Halls Creek etc All tracks we have traversed, but in dry conditions.

Probably not the best time of the year to make such a solo trip, even if the roads still exist.

Probably doable.
But time would no doubt be a factor. Not to mention vehicle prep and organising supplies for remote travel at short notice.
Someone will no doubt be along in a bit to tell us they packed some sandwiches and went via the CSR and was home in three days.
In a Nissan.
LOL.
