We hoping to go West from Victory Downs, via Gunbarrel in APY Land. I've heard lots of talk of refusal of permit applications and i wondered if anyone has an update.
Thx

In a nutshell, if you are not working in the APY Lands or know someone that lives there, they do not hand out tourist permits.
The time we went through there, we personally know a number of Aboriginal people there and our permit was issue “Family Visit”.
The bush telegraph work extremely
well there. We stop to see if a Police Aid needed help with a flat . He was ok and said I know where you are going, yet had never seem him before.

Yes, when I went through, the cops stopped me to
check my permit.
I think it is even harder to get in these days. I read that Connie Sue Beadell and Mick Hutton were even refused permits.

I know that before COVID-19, permits were very hard to get for this section of road, but not impossible. During COVID-19, all access to this area (as was access to most indigenous communities), was denied to anyone who did not work in the area, and that included Tour Operators such as Beadell’s.
In 2017, we had travel permits for this road from
Warburton through to
Surveyor Generals Corner, but not for further East than there. This area east of
Surveyor Generals Corner is the area that you want to travel. From Mulga Park to
Surveyor Generals Corner is basically a “no go” area for anyone not connected to the “APY” communities.
Macca.
