Just wondering, re all the new stuff available for mapping/navigation since I started remote area traveling in the early 2000's, is anyone other than me still using good old OE....?.

Yes, still using Ozi. I like the way you can customise the user interface to suit your own preference. The free maps from GetLost are good & there are regular updates to Ozi.

Hi Kevin.
Thanks for that. Getlost maps I'd not heard of.
I've downloaded the WA 75K series but they have downloaded as many numbers of individual tiles.
Did you combine them into a seamless map covering the state or do you use them tile by tile?
Cheers.
J.

Hi
John,
There are 2 options in the download table for each state. The first is the individual maps, the second is one zip file of all the maps.

Thanks Kevin. But I did download the zipped folder, but when I opened it it just provides the individual tiles (as an ozf4 file together with the assoc .map file). See

Hi
John,
Unzip all those files then copy them to Ozi's Map folder or a sub folder under the Maps folder. Reindex the maps or re-start Ozi to auto re-index and they should be available.

Hi Kevin and Frank.
So... over the last couple of days...
I don't think Frank, that the indexing idea works for Ozi desktop, which is what I was looking for in the first instance, so as to have a shoofty at the mapping generally.
But... I've just successfully combined the maps into a single e-sheet using Ozi Map Merge:
https://www.oziexplorer4.com/stuff/ozimapmerge_setup.exe
Warning, the conversion took just short of 24 hours on my PC.
In my view, the mapping doesn't compare favourably with EO's product; nowhere near close. Nor with other comparable maps from Hema or Natmaps.
It is however free, so that's the upside.
Cheers.
JB.

Hi
John,
"I don't think Frank, that the indexing idea works for Ozi desktop, which is what I was looking for in the first instance,"
Hmmmm ... it worked for me on an HP Envy X360, Win 10 at the time.
Cheers
You can force a re-index from the menu under Map/Re-index Map Files:

Thanks Frank.
I tried that just now; nothing happened. I was expecting it to prompt for a folder for Ozi to index contents. But zilch.
Not concerned; just fyi.
Cheers.

Hey
John,
Ozi indexes all the maps in the Maps folder and also those in any subfolders residing under the Maps folder and also subfolders of subfolders!!
On my installation, during indexing I see a small progress window at the bottom left of the screen.
You can have the Map folder at any location on your PC or even on a stick, but you have to tell Ozi where it is. If you have moved the Map folder and haven't reconfigured Ozi then it won't index.
You set the location of the Maps folder in the Configuration menu (File/Configuration or shortcut with Alt C) then look at File Paths in the System window:
OZI Map filepath
Or do you already know all this stuff?
Cheers

Thanks Frank.
Have only just got back to this. I guess I would have done a 'configuration' when I originally purchased desktop Ozi over 15 years ago...
But now have just tried it again as per image.
Ozi snip.
Still doesn't seem to have done anything to seamlessly integrate the image sets for the series.
Cheers.
John.

I've run out of ideas,
John.
I'm sure it's something basic but I can't identify it from here. I think I could fix it if I was in front of your computer but the tyranny of distance somewhat prevents that. Sorry I can't help further.
Cheers

Thanks Frank.
I appreciate your helpfulness. I agree re, you sitting in front of my PC... :-).
The issue is only a mild irritant; as before I combined the tiles via map merge in any case (which I've been doing in similar situations for years).
Safe travels.
John.

We are full time motorhome travellers here in NZ.
OziE has been our goto mapping application since about 2000.
Originally on notebooks and now also on several Andriod tablets and phones.
Daily tracklogs have been recorded since our 3 year Australia stint way back in 2003.
A 10" tablet in mounted on our central glovebox displaying a regularly updated NZ 50k topographic mapset.
I also have umpteen other mapping apps and GPS devices but OziE is still the favourite for daily use. Absolutey faultless performance.

Hi
John
I use Ozi; I prefer the full version. I have a vehicle-mounted tough book.

We've been OziExplorer users since its inception and still use it for overall mapping especially when in the bush, tried all the others and keep coming back to Ozi.
For on road and suburban nav and finding local spots we use Google Maps on the phone, it's up to date and includes traffic problems virtually live.

Yes been using Ozi for nearly 20 years.
Just wish the new
EOTOPO 23 was in Raster format.
Not everyone is using the Travellers app and have 2 Navigators for in vehicle use that run Ozi and the ability to add your own private maps

Hello
John - hope you are
well
Still use Oziexplorer (on PC) almost every day for work - mainly editing/creating waypoints and tracks - which I then use in Arcview or on my GPS (which runs TwoNav software- similar to OE but different). I started using OE in 1998...25 years ago.
Cheers

Thank Greg.
Yes, very
well. Got Plains Wanderer last week. :-).
Re my post... I have EO Traveller but rarely use it. Old habits favour Ozi...
Cheers.

Good work - don't like my chances of ever seeing one of them
Best I can come up with (in recent times) is a green parrot (Norfolk Island)...rare but easy enough to find.

Caught a plane - hired a car (avoided school holidays) - I found the parrots in the eastern end of the national park - a publicized "hot spot". Also, local versions of the
grey fantail and scarlet robin...also tracked down Slender-billed White-eye. Didn't spot any boobooks but wasn't trying too hard.
Cheers

When we are travelling (hasn't been much of that lately due to health issues) I use Ozi in split screen mode alongside EO Traveller. Ozi on a small scale map for an overview, Traveller for the detail. Both record our tracks.
Cheers
