one for the Victorians
is it true that you lot get caught at around say 4 klm over the 60 klm speed limit?

if so, how does that work if the ADR says a speedo can have a 10% allowable error

do you have to get your speedo's checked etc etc??????????
what goes?

Bet they'd soon change their mind if EVERYONE drove at like 40 kmh!

Just imagine the road rage.

Still, common sense & politics......... they will never meet.

That's what the mongrels tried to tell us (scare tactics) but I don't believe it to be the case. When it was reported sometime later that they were issuing fines with such a low tolerance they shrugged their shoulders said "yeah" but we're not telling what the tolerance. Remember the speed on the ticket is after the tolerance has been removed so a ticket issued for 64 would have the vehicle clocked at min of 67 (3kph federal tolerance) plus whatever the state tolerance is. Vic used to be
3 plus 10% now it's 3 plus we don't know. What is it in SA ?

Not sure Ray.

We sometimes have ads on the telly telling us what the dangers are if your travelling at 70 kmh. Seems to me to be a waste of money if you could be simply booked doing that speed.

Don't know mate.........

Coming down Shepards Hill road in the mornings...... you will sometimes see the OH SO SECRET car parked all alone.........

I parked in front of it once, just to see what would happen............ nothing....... but I got HEAPS of friendly waves!

Cheers

In SA, tolerance is 9 km/h. 69 is ok, 70 is busted. Same in QLD.

i would have thought that if the ADR syas that a speedo must be within 10% of actual and real/true speed then they (the camera's /radar) must have a 10% tolerance??
i suggest that that is the case here in SA but I often hear of lees an that in Vic?

As i understand it, the 3 kph tolerance was put forward by the vic gov, but has never been officially passed by the parliment, Still they try to shaft us all the time. There has been a huge increase in the number of mobile camera units out and about since the ring road cameras were shut down.. WARNING there is a new speed camera mounted on the hume fwy southbound at Wallan..
WARNING 2 the police have a new type of vehicle working the ring road, it is a purple ss with no markings on the front and hidden lights at the front, but with small side stickers and lights at the rear.. Made for sneaking up behind us.. Mongrels

Ok now i know this is going to cause quite a few dramas... but everyone's entitled to their own little opinion and this is just mine...

Why do people make such a big deal about the "TOLERANCE" thing??
I'm not sure about other states... but over in WA it's usually about 7-9kms over before you will get pinged... but really... should you be speeding in the first place?
Everyone jumps on the bandwagon when someone is killed on our roads and they all make a big song and dance about it, but just as soon, they jump back in their cars and think.. well it's not going to happen to me and off they go.. doing their own little 5 or 6 k's over the limit...

The "limit" is there for a reason... usually it's because the powers that be have decided that is the "safe" speed limit for that road... but then you get these people who really dont give a toss about laws like that because they think they can handle their cars and it'll never happen to them...

I think it's time for a wake up call for lots of people out there on our roads ... if you speed... expect to have to pay for the ticket... People need to start taking responsibility for their actions and stop blaming the government and or their departments for their own !$@$ ups...

Well thats my little rant over and done with .. hope everyone had a safe weekend :D

Troy, this subject was asked not to condone speeding but I have heard of Victorians and SA motorists not getting any lee-way in Vic and if true I find this abusurd for the following:

The Australian Design Rules allows for a 10% error in your speedo reading. If you thought (by your speedo) you were traveling at 60kph you could in fact have a true speed of 66kph.
Based on the govt own rules ...if our speedo's only have to be within 10% of true speed how are we the motorist expected know our actual speed?...do we all go out and by sophisticated GPS systems?

We all lose total 100% concentration at some time while driving and our speed could unintentionally increase....

or this scenario....but honest, Judge my speedo was only showing 56 kph and not the 61kph as shown on the radar!?????
