EO slow to load?

When I click on EO, or even to expand unread threads, EO takes at least 10 seconds and typically 15 - 20 seconds to load. Sometimes it takes over 30 seconds to expand a thread, and sometimes it just freezes.

It happens on my PC, tablet and phone. Yet all other websites are lightning fast, and my internet has very high performance ( ping 12mS and 108MBPS download)

Does anyone else get this issue?

Hi Tony,

Yes, mine does the same on both my Air 2 iPad, and my Apple computer. However on the computer it is not just Exploroz that is slow to load, but everything else seems to be as well. However, in my case with the computer it seems to be associated with “Google” as opposed to just an individual program. Once I have Google up and running, everything else seems to load quickly.

Slow here for me in South Australia

My speed test is about 54.1 Mbps for download and 18.9 Mbps uploads.

My load-speed for ExplorOz.com is fine, however I don't use Chrome.

Was having this issue using chrome, I changed to Firefox and it is still the same, individual pages load slowly.
It is not just this site I'm having the same issue with.

Periodically slow/unresponsive for me in rural SA.
Both on satellite and wireless at same time and isolated to this site only.
Go figure...

I just log on in the morning - boil my two eggs for brekky and when explore-oz opens, my eggs are cooked perfectly - half runny and half hard :)

No problems for me

ExplorOz is a live and continuously updated website - a lot more going on in the background than "other" static lightning fast websites, if its slower to load dont think its a problem. People can update places, treks, add photos, live track logs get added to the site as well and comments so its fairly complex...

Have to disagree Kerry, sorry.

As for being live and continuing to updated, that might have been the case years ago when the forum was very active and there were dozens of very regular daily users.

Now you are lucky to see 3 or 4 reply’s in a day, so there goes your theory of continually updating.

As for being able to add photos, it is hit and miss for me and at the moment I am unable to load a photo, it’s just too slow.

As for people saying it’s the type of computer or browser, well I can say it does not matter if it’s windows or apple, they still load far too slow compared to years ago when you would open the forum, get in instantly and same with any new forum post, now try to open a new post and just have to join the cue for it to open.

Same, there are literally 10's of millions of sites with dynamic loading that are fast.

Sure EO has a lot of information but that should have nothing to do with it.

Something else is causing extremely slow performance IMHO.

Kerry said "a lot more going on in the background than "other" static lightning fast websites,"

It does not matter much website you have a look at, you are only downloading one page. On the occasions that it takes a long time to download, it takes a long waiting time before things happen. When a response starts, the site loads quickly. You can observe this watching the bottom LH corner of your browser when you hit an enter button.

If you disagree with what I’ve said take it up with Michelle or David. It’s not my place to explain. I know the servers are top notch and the site is busy. Maybe a recent update or bug somewhere? Site is updated at midnight, and this has sometimes been known to cause delays. As for the forum - it’s never been the main focus of the site nor was it a burden on resources . Personally have not had issues recently with the site loading, but often have issues with unreliable bandwidth from Telstra. Can only speak from personal experience having been closely involved with EO in the past.

I find that when the site is slow to load the problem is in the latency time. When I initiate a contact I watch the activity in the bottom LH corner of my Firefox. I first see the EO address, it hangs there for ages. When the next bit of activity comes it rockets through very quickly and the screen loads very quickly.
