Hi all, it has been a long time since I've posted on here last so hoping someone on here may be able to help me.
When we started out on our outback adventures we had an extra fuel tank put on our 1999 GU Patrol, (diesel), we have one tank at rear of the vehicle and another right forward of back axle, the forward one has sprung a leak at the top and it seems no one wants to fix it. My problem is I'm not sure which tank is the sub tank and which is the main tank. My question is, where is the main tank situated on a GU Patrol? If the tank that's leaking is the sub tank I will be able to empty it and just use the main tank as we're not able to do any of the outback trips anymore so sub tank not really needed. Further to my question, if it is the main tank that's leaking is there anywhere in Perth that will fix it for us, we've tried many places but no one seems to want to do it.
I know this sounds trivial and I should know which tank is which but unfortunately I've been thrown in the deep end with this as Hubby dealt with all the add ons of the vehicle but he can no longer understand what's what so thanks for any help that you can give me.

I have a 2006 Patrol ute fitted with factory main & sub tanks. The Main tank (95L) is the rear one. The Sub tank (85l) is on the driver side in front of the axle. Some wagons had a 30l sub tank.

Only the main tank feeds the motor. I have always thought that having the main tank behind the axle a design fault, but in your case it is probably good news.

Thank you so much for that Cuppa, that helps a lot, much appreciated. The sub tank was put in by ARB back in 2004 but they don't repair them now, so I was told, not sure where we're going to be able to get it fixed over here in Perth.
Thanks again for your reply.
Cheers
Deanna.

You might be lucky if it's coming from the top it might just be a hose or gasket on the fuel sender unit.

Thanks Batt's, that would be fantastic but a mechanic told us the hoses etc are OK, but the tank hasn't been removed yet, we can't find anyone over here who's interested in doing the work, the tank is too old apparently.

I would nearly bet it is the gasket under the access plate on the top of the tank where hoses etc go into it. these dry out and split or shrivel because a lot of folks dont keep the tanks up to a decent level with fuel...because they dont use reserve.....?

That gives me a lot more hope that the hose or gasket could be the problem, we haven't used the vehicle a lot these past few years so a good chance you could be right then.
Thanks for that.

There should be an access hatch under the middle row of seats. It will allow you to see the top of the sub-tank where the pickup etc is.

It’s also not uncommon for aftermarket tanks to crack where the brackets are welded on. It’s not a huge job to pull the sub tank out and take it to any fabrication shop for inspection/repair etc. If you can’t do the job yourself, any of the 4wd specialist shops should be able to do it for you.

Thanks for that information, there's no way I could do that now, wish I could. I rang ARB today and they said they couldn't do it, they were the one's who fitted the tank in the first place. I'll have to ring around with the hope to jag someone who'll do it for me.
Thanks again for your help.

Yep, I’d forget all about ARB. A few I’d try would be as below, not sure on your location.

Westcoast 4x4 creations ( Malaga) Patrol specialists.

Midland 4wd ( Canning Vale)
Medicar ( Bibra Lake)

One of the above should be able to assist.
