Still further north Macca.
It is a popular

Ok to keep the ball rolling what was the importance of this structure, and more importantly, where is it located?
This should be a dead easy one to answer, as it is a very popular area where people love to visit.

What was I and where am I located?

Come on guys this is an easy one and no dirt road driving.
The whole area is popular all year round and summer is extremely busy.
And it’s in South Australia.

I am pretty sure it is a
limestone kiln - used for making lime for cement. I have seen a few around the place ie Tasmania, Walkerville in Vic but I think this one is in SA.
Wool Bay perhaps?

G'day Kennell
I reckon I took a photo of the bridge standing on the very rock you stood on ! The old bridge was just to the right if I'm correct ? And when you see the height of the old bridge that was under
water when the Snowy was in full force you can see why a new bridge was needed - incredible amount of
water !!
I did a 7 year stint living in
Canberra from 2003 to 2010 where I met a great bunch of guys who were mad keen 4wdrivers and campers and still catch up with them occasionally for a drive and a
camp. Coming from South Australia, which is basically flat ( and dry ), I just couldn't get enough of the mountains ( and rivers ) over there. The boys took me to some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen which included the start of the River Murray and one of my all time favourite
camp spots Canooley on the Deua River.
Waking up one morning there with snow on my swag instead of sand or dust, was for me, very special !!!
Cheers
Gazz

From memory the old bridge was just to the right as you suggest. This spot is an easy drive compared to much of the high country. It is indeed an enticing area. We swam in the river the day I took the pic and it was pretty fresh. We saw why the next day. The mountains still had a good cover on them.

The previous bridge was built on the existing piers. It was washed away before it was officially opened. So the story goes, the reason for the high open truss between the piers and the roadway was to get the road up out of any future flood level. The second link below suggests the concrete pylons were raised 5 metres during the rebuilding (this is the first time I have come across that info.)

Correct and right behind the campground is a
billabong, 20 meters through the scrub. Two females nest there and were both there while we were. This
billabong would be around 250m from the ocean. The
ranger told us they were usually fine. Your turn.
