Hi everyone, fresh back from our trip to the Northern Goldfields this small presentation might be of interest for anyone visiting the
Leonora area , Kalgoorlie,
Kookynie or
Lake Ballard vicinity . An interesting ghost town ,steep in history and
well restored for tourists to check out.
Cheers Mike and Kendra

Very interesting, thanks for posting this. Does anyone actually live there or in the surrounding area? I noticed that there was what appeared to be a Mobile Phone tower in a few of the photos.

Last time I was sculling around there there was a remnant
population out there including the caretakers of the museum. When the
mine was established there was a town called
Leonora, 4km away which was the centre of the mining operations in the area. It was the dormer suburb for the Gwalia
mine and was connected with a passenger tramway.
Leonora is still the centre of the current mining operations and had a
population of 657 in 2021.
See this link.
I found that most of the villages in the northern goldfields had reasonable caravan parks. The area up there is
well worth a week or more in the area. The
Leonora Caravan Park looks like it is still OK.

Not in the buildings in the pics but just next door to the little village there are very old houses that are occupied with tenants.

The mobile phone tower is up at the
mine which is one of the highest spots around.
Leonora is only a few kilometres to the north.

Hoover house is also a worthwhile visit while in the area. Devonshire tea or coffee in the house gardens was very pleasant when we were there years ago.
