There are no credible/consistent reports of failures of post first series motors. There are big km 3.0tds out there now (doing hard work) with absolutely no worries. A lot of people had their fun knocking the car. No doubt there will still be the knockers even when the nissans have 500 thou on the clock! I forsee this motor now becoming a classic, following the initial problems. Thats how it works sometimes.

52,000 in 3 and a half years Bj, and 200,000 in Falcons for work. The Patrol is used mainly to get to the fun, have the fun, and get
home from the fun. Resale is great, in that time it owes us less than $10000.

Mines a July 2000 build. Just crossed 80K. Had it's service last week.
Absolutely no indication of anything going wrong with anything except usual wear out throw away things.
Have been hearing more and more lately that even out of warranty, Nissan will replace the motor in the GU11. Truckster, don't know what happened with the bloke your talking about. Don't worry about dealers. If they give you a hard time, then go straight to the top of Nissan. They can be screwed.
Bjorn, your spot on mate. This will be a classic motor and why stop at 500K.
Cheers

Is that the guy who said he had done 2 motors and 2 turbo's? There have been so many people with series 2 patrols crying it must be fact not fiction. Wasn't the P-76 called a classic too?

I found it interesting that when I was looking at buying a patrol from a dealership they had 2 gu patrols side by side both with 10000kms on them with new motors the female salesman told me that they both had blown there motors and had been replaced under wantry one at 40000kms and the other at 65000kms at that the alarm bells started ringing so I went and did some net surfing about the problem. At the end of the day I would still have brought either one of these patrols as they came with a 3 year wantry but the fact that I am moving to
katherine in the NT next month and if I need any wantry work done it it would have to come back to Sale in vic each time So Iwent and brought the terracan on the grounds the wantry was Australia wide in time it will interesting to see if I have made the right choice so far I am happy with the terracan

I'm guessing that you are a Raafie Chappy Tim - getting back to sale shouldn't be such a problem for you should it - just load it in the back of a herc on one of the spare parts runs - OJOC

I hope he's right, cos my series 3 has 53k on it and i hear every noise about twice as loud as it probly is. The other thing that gets up me is the way these threads allways become abusive. must be the same people you hear on the UHF near cities!!!!!!!

Agree totally Andrew - I can't see the point in rubbishing anyone's vehicle. I'm happy with my GU 2.8tdi now with 140000k on the clock and not so much as a rattle or squeak - well probably going over the top there as I don't know of any patol where the barn doors don't rattle a little (or a lot!). The 3.0ltr was a big experiment for Nissan - taking a European (Renault) diesel and transplanting it to a country where the diesel has more particulate matter than a kid's sandpit was a big gamble. I too think they have solved the problems and we will see the powerplant around for a few years to come yet....and the post series I ones will largely prove to be trouble free.
Cheers

You must be the luckiest Patrol owner on the planet Rolande - not only do my doors rattle but that bloody courtesy light switch often get a case of the intermittents - shutting on and off.
