i have recently noticed the Daihatsu Rocky 2.8 diesel and it has interested me. what i would like to know if it is a reliable 4x4 as i am previusly a happy owner of a sierra but after 250 000kms on the clock i think it is time to trade up. so if any one could give me some info on the rocky it would be greatly apreciated.

Phillip. I had a Daihatsu F20 for 6 years and as far as I was concerned it was unstopable. We've also had some Rockys and a Sports Afield in my club and their owners shared the same view. I have also looked after a small fleet of Daihatsu trucks over the years and they were just as good. FYI-Daihatsu is a subsidiary company of Toyota- they've got to be good.

Mate go for it. The rocky's also have a much thicker panel than most, so it might be seen to be stronger in the bodywork. The later models (post '94 I think) were coils all round - make sure you go for one of them.

The only drawbacks I see are the tall cargo area (bit like a discovery) and the lack of range - biggest tank available is about 105 litres.

Not a real "rock crawler", but a great little tourer.

If you are happy with the Zook, why not a G Vitara ??

Phillip - I've just returned from a 5000k trip in my grand vitara. Granted we didn't get into the 'real' outback - only the flinders rangers and the gammon ranges but we used all the back roads we could, not sticking to the bitumen. Mine's not new, about 3 years old but only has 50,000 on the clock. It's a V6 and we had it packed to the gills with camping gear. I'd highly recomment it.
