Interested in getting closer to MT Connor on the next trip north - I understand that there are some tours there but can a solo traveller get in there ? Camping overnight maybe or just trek about for a few hours. Any advice welcome this way.

Try contacting the "Curtin Springs" roadhouse. I remember reading somewhere that they have something to with it - whether it be tours or its on their property, not sure. ask telecom directory for their number.

Yes
You can only get out there on a tour. Ring the Sevrin's at Curtain Springs as they own it and they do the tours. Whatever you do don't try to go oout there yourself as there are some little things on the roads to stop you apparently they are sick of people driving thru their property leaving gates open etc. (can't blame them).

The organsied tour is the only way to see MT Connor up close however if you take the Mulga Park road from near Curtin Springs you will see the Mt from a different perspective. The Mulga park rd comes out on the Stuart H/way about 50 kms north of Marla.

Hi. Just came back from Red centre and in particular spoke with "Uncle" at Curtin springs re camping out at Mt Connor. Despite what the webpage says, Uncle was happy for us to camp by ourselves at the designated campsite, and climb Mt Connor by ourselves. The only reason we didn't do this was:
- You must be escorted to/from to the campsite. We would have had to follow the next "Uncle" tag-along-tour out to the campsite .. and pay for the tour just to get to the campsite. very expensive
- the camp fee was also pretty expensive from what i recall
- there was also a per head fee to climb Mt connor (self guided)

all up it was going to cost us about $380 for 2 vehicles (2 families) to drive to the campsite, stay for 1 night, & climb MtConnor. Way too expensive for us

Indeed Drew.....they own/care/accept resposibility for the lease so they should charge whatever they think fair but I'd be giving camping a miss on those terms. The 5-6 hour tour in their vehicle might be value at $85 PP......depeneds on what they offer but it sounded ok......worthwhile experiences do of course cost. Guess they have public liability issues with the tourism too. Thanks a lot.

Go to one of the helicopter comapnies at Ayers Rock (used to work for one) and they can actually fly you out there on to Mt Connor. It is pretty (read: very) expensive, but well worth it. You can do a flight that takes you to Ayers Rock, the Olga's, Lake Amadeus and then land on Mt Connor and then return. If you can get 4 paying adults it makes it a cheaper (cost divided by 4 and you could probably negotiate a cheaper price)
