My HJ60 keeps throwing its internal wiper arm off the wiper motor. The plastic locking ring has worn and to get a genuine replacement I have to buy the whole arm at $300!! True!
Has someone a fix or modification to this problem? The local dealer has seen three this week so it is a well known problem for them.
Secondhand ones are as worn as mine. Thanks for your interest.

Thanks.
You are right. They have a part listed but their email and links are not working. Have to send them a fax.
Cheers

Hi bbuzz,

We have a HJ60 and had the same problem. You can buy the arm, from the wiper motor to the main assembly, seperately from Toyota and the cost is between $25 - $35. Hope this helps

Thanks.
My dealer wants $300! Did you deal with Toyota direct?
Have you an address I can contact for a similar price?
I'll get the hang of these Forum replies soon!!!

Thanks for your answer. That is what I thought it was worth too but the local dealer wants $300.
Did you deal with a dealer or did you contact Toyota direct?

Hi Bill,
Dealt with Prosser ( I hope I don't get into trouble for using their name) Toyota in Gosnells WA. The part in question is the single arm that runs from the wiper motor to the main assembly and joins it behind the middle inspection plate. Will try and help further if required.

Thanks. I have emailed Toyota about the price.I wouldn't mind a contact number/email for Prosser if that is OK. The freight will still have me miles in front with a new part!!

Hi Bill,

I have just contacted Prossers and they explained that to replace that part in an early model HJ60 you need to buy the whole assembly for $300, but the arm in question can be replaced with an arm from a later model that can be bought seperately from the main assembly. He said other people have done this and it seems to work. (Our part was ordered by our mechanic so we didn't know this was the story before now). He quoted us $27.30 and the part number is 8516490A00 and said you should be able to get this part through your local Toyota Dealer. If you have further problems, the phone number for the Parts dept at Prossers is (08) 9492 1355.
By the way, where are you?
Hope this information helps you out.
Good Luck

Thanks. I have the part. The 'saleman' I first talked to was not around so no problems. I may make an enquiry to the dealer management as to whether they were going to charge me the $300 if I had left the vehicle with them; but fitted the cheap part and pocketed the difference.
What a cynical person I am!!
