Ordered a(new) Warn 9000lb winch today, decided against being a guinea pig and buying a cheap winch, never works in the long run.
Now how many people leave the control box mounted ontop of the winch and how many remote mount it up under the bonnet in a water proof elec. box.

Nick,
Mine sits on the bullbar and haven't had any probs. However, my ARB bar is a 2000 model and was the one they had the neat little "W" cut out in the front to take the control box. This meant that the control box was mounted in behind the bar and above the winch motor........impossible to get at for the regular maintainence they require without taking the whole bloody winch out first. I guess that's why ARB stopped making that style of bar. Their current bar isn't a whole lot better; it puts the box under one of the side wings and still too bloody hard to get to.
If you've got room under the bonnet for it and don't mind lifting the bonnet every time you want to use it, I'd say go for it. It'll also keep it safe from mongrels who might otherwise do the old trick of pulling out the cable, over the top of the roof, hook onto the tow bar and short out the pins in the control box to drag the winch cable down through your roof......
Good luck

Still mount control box on top of winch and fit an isolation switch in main power cable mounted under bonett, just lift bonnet and turn on switch when you go 4 wheelin then nobody can mess with it.
