Just had to mention this - seeing I see complaints about cost and service frequently -
I've just got the best deal on my internet and phone FINALLY
I dont think I've come across a better deal than Primus's latest offer (Primus is a telco and ISP and has been voted best Internet Service Provider a few years running now)
Ive been with them for 5 years and just now -- for --
$55 per month
I can get
1/ FREE LOCAL CALLS - used to cost me $30-$40 per month alone)
2/Line rental (now $28 per month with Telstra)
3/ Totally unlimited Internet (dial up - no time or download limits - usually approx $20 per month)
4/ Max cap on STD calls $2.50 - 24/7
check it out here
http://primustel.com.au/primusone/
This is what I hear about overseas
For $30 - $50 extra you can get 12GB of Broadband per month -
If anybody can beat that let me know -
Nick

Hey vinnie thats great too - but I use too many local calls to benefit I think the international caps are $2.50 and 17c/min - dont use it.
Its great to see some good alternatives the the Monopoly - We pay far too much line rental - seeing it was only $11 a few years ago -= Just wait till we get VOIP (Voice over Internet) Then it ll be Yahoooo and Koooeee all the way back to our piggy banks - I used to pay over $100 every month

I have heard you can hook-up a web cam using certain types of digital video cameras. You can connect thru and watch & hear. Only heard it mentioned of the possibilities but untried on my system as yet.

A small bouble Webcam & Mike ( not expensive) is great if you have broadband cost nil to talk to someone overseas. Dont know how they go with dialup.

We run broadband here...... never ever ever ever ever go back to the bleep service and speed of a dial up service. We pay about $80 a month for 512 speed ADSL and free local calls. Why would you put up with crappy unreliable dial up????????????

Now i'm eligible for ADSL (broadband), i have signed up for $29.95 per month with my ISP Westnet. I will cancel the 2nd phone line and save $23.50 per month, plus about 2 or 3 local call dials in a day. The better speed should stop me getting timed out when trying to download from somewhere awful like the Tax Office too.

Hey Brew, are you with Telstra. I went with telstra @ $73.00/month and got a free dvd player.
DVD player is already in cupboard as it doesn't play all disks and now Telstra have dropped their prices but cause I am on stupid plan I am stuck with paying more than I have to.
Only upside is it is FAST and free downloads from their servers.
Just my short rave

I am with optus. I get 1 gig of downloads a month and then it slows down to dial up speed.(not been there yet) 50 free local calls.(don't use many now cos you don't dial up) When you call the help desk there is no wait.(like dial up) But no free dvd player :( If i was on the $29.95 a month plan i would be in trouble cos the kids download too much music. We used to have telstra cable.(can't beat it for speed) I know what you mean about signing up and then seeing the price fall tho. I paid $1000 for a digital camera 18 months ago and now the same one is about $300. and to make things worse it getting fixed and costing me $75.
