I suppose that you all saw channel 7's program on 4WDs again, again, again.
Well I live in the country. I run a 4WD with a bull bar and although I do not make a habit of driving at night, anyone who does needs their head felt if they don't have a bar of some description. Mine has saved me many times.
If in the city it comes in very handy to nudge other vehicles to obtain a parking space. It also protects me against pedestrians and cyclists. The last thing we want is a pedestrian or a cyclist coming through the windscreen.
What about trucks? Does Channel 7 want to ban them also??????

Hey guys

I have the solution to the problem.

Why don't the fun police start booking pedestrians for 'J' walking. There in itself is a good portion of the problem or maybe we should stop people double parking on busy thoroughfares. We could also have the fun police start booking all the pushbike riders that decide that they are above the law. Better still let's wrap ourselves up in cottonwool and just act like vegetables for the rest of our lives.

By doing that we would remove a good portion of the pedestrians who decide to break the law and therefore save their lives.

Personally I don't agree with that dipstick from the university either. It doesn't matter if you get hit by a four wheel drive with a bullbar or some twit in a high or low powered commodore. Chances are you are still going to end up pushing up daiseys and pulling harp strings.

If your numbers up, your numbers up and there isn't a damn thing anyone can do about it.
Safe travels

Buy life insurance. When I was a kid life insurance really had me puzzled. Do you really get another life or just market value of the one you had???

I have bloody well had it with Harold Scrubby (NSW Ped Council) and the like. As I have said before lets organise a rally out each stae Parliment and show them how many votes there are in 4x4's. It would be great to block Macquarie St in Sydney with a 1000 4x4's.

Where i live all the cop cars have bull bars to protect there cars .
i beleave that the only way they can stop 4x4's from having bull bars is to ban
bull bar for all 4x4's made after a sertan date .(2005)
like your old 40# l/cruiser is safter with a bull bar as the chassy stick out
a foot further than the rest of the 4by.(for pedestrians etc)
I won't be pulling mine off in a big hurry.
i say lets all stick up for our rights to have bull bars.

Manufacturers wouldn't stand for that one. Sales would drop. When I updated I would be buying a good second hand 2004 model with bullbar. Not that I'd buy a new vehicle anyway but that's another story.......

While here in Adelaide we have an old guy run down by a 4Wd with a poor driver and, yep, the bull bar did all the damage. He has no grudge against the driver, just the bullbar. Day after the accident we had 5AA advocating removable bull bars for all vehicles at the city limits. Watch out for the red flag coming back.
You've got to hand it to theze anti-funsters, anything that they don't like - it's BAD.

I must admit I had the same feelings re bull bars until we bought our Troopy. Now, all beware!!

A young man moved into a new apartment and went to the lobby to put his name on his mailbox. While there, an attractive young lady came out of the apartment next to the mailboxes wearing a robe.

The boy smiled at the young woman and she started a conversation with him. As they talked her robe slipped open and it was obvious that she had nothing else on. The poor kid broke into a sweat trying to maintain eye contact. After a few minutes she placed her hand on his arm and said "Let's go to my apartment, I hear someone coming".

He followed her into her apartment, she closed the door and leaned against it, allowing her robe to fall off completely. Now totally nude, she purred at him "What would you say is my best feature?"

Flustered and embarrassed, he finally squeaked, "It's got to be your ears".

Astounded and a little hurt she asked, "My ears? Look at these breasts; they are full and l00% natural. I work out every day. My butt is firm and solid. Look at my skin, no blemishes anywhere. How can you think that the best part of my body is my ears?"

Clearing his throat, he stammered, "Outside, when you said you heard someone coming? . . . That was me."

Yeah I saw it also infact made a special point of watching it. There's not a state election due in Vic is there, these things always seem to raise their heads when a local or state election is in the wind. These guys may as well ban trucks as well, and we can all se that happening LOL! As far as 4wd blocking sedan drivers views thats a load of bull, with my 4wd off the road at the moment I'm driving a small hire car (Hyundai Excel) and I have trouble seeing past the larger sedans at certain intersections. I've got the answer!! Make all vehicle s the same size, and stop pedestrians coming near streets.

Channel 7 must once again struggling for informative articles on TDT

I actually made a special point of NOT watching the program. They are all the same drivel.

I work in North Sydney, and every day at lunchtime, I see office workers ducking in and out of traffic, not using pedestrian crossings etc... They don't seem to have any road sense what-so-ever. And the stupid thing is, if they got hit, they would be annoyed at the car/4wd/truck! They seem to not know what footpaths and roads are for.

I bet if a 4WD hit somone, and it had a bull bar, there would be a huge media frenzy...

I have a T-Shirt. On the front, it says SOCIAL ENGINEERING SPECIALIST. On the back, it says 'BECAUSE THERE IS NO PATCH FOR HUMAN STUPIDITY!'. (I work in IT..)

thanks....just my 2 cents.

l borrowed my sons car yesterday to run around in l was amazed at what you cannot see that you take for granted such as aproaching a roundabout you cannot see if any vechicles are in it or about to enter it until you are in it because you cannot see over all the vegitation the same goes for the mediam strip down the middle and that was in a commodore its about time these tv programs reported something of use to the viewing public.

Maybe it's time Harold Scrubby started to educate the people he claims to represent. . People seem to think they are invinsible and cross the street where ever they want, if that's the short cut to where they are going they will take it regardless of the risk. Imagine the up roar if cars, 4wd's or even trucks, started to drive down footpaths, across parks, through crowded shopping malls because hey it's quicker than driving around the streets. If that started "Mr Scrubby" would have a valid arguement, at the moment he is talkingbleep. If the pedestrians were educated properly, it wouldn't matter if 4wd's or cars and trucks for that matter, drove down the street with a bullbar or even a big scoop on the front as the pedestrian would know it was dangerous to walk on the road and wouldn't be there! By the way, I drive a small Hyundai accent, a 4wd (HJ60) with a bullbar and a school bus and have witnessed idiots while out driving the various vehicles.

Watched the programme, wondering if they had anything new to add. Just different "experts".

Did notice a clip of a humungous "5-poster", was taken at such an angle, to disguise the fact it was on a Commodore ute, not a 4WD! But the impressionable ones would have missed this, more sensationalism for Channel 7, err Seven Central up in this country.

Hooroo...

why oh why do we continue to watch Today Tonight and ACA when they persist with this sort of drivel.
Do us all a favour and turn to Aunty when their shows are on please.

I'd like to see that learned professor (or anyone else for that matter) tackle the Pilbara and Inland highways at night without a bull bar !

It's the same old bucket of you know what. No bull bars. Special licences. When will it end ? Owning a 75 series cruiser the bonnet is the same level as the bar, and the front is flat. So what difference would it make if you were stupid enough to walk out in front of me ? If you did and I didn't have the bar it just means that you would have to wait 1/1000 of a second longer for the body to fill up the space where the bar should have been !!!!

And having said that I have seen with my own eyes that the problem is not the vehicle it's the driver. Put a parent ,predominantly women ,( sorry but I have worked in more than a few schools ) behind a vehicle that's only similarity to a car is that it has four wheels. Throw into the mix kids, another hundred 4x4s and every driver hell bent on picking up as quickly as possible the children before they get trapped in the bus stop or get done for double parking and you are just asking for chaos. Its's that simple.

I remember one day walking through the designated staff only car park which meant stuff all to the parents, when I was almost reversed over by a 4x4 . Now bear in mind I stand at just shy of six foot four, that is no mean feat as I am sure you will agree. What chance would a child have had that couldn't ban on the glass and shout out ?

Vehicle training for un trained 4x4 drivers. That's DRIVERS, ie ANY DRIVER that get's behind the wheel is probably the way to go. But more importantly :

BAN STUPID PEDESTRIANS NOT BULL BARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep - they just ran the show to make us all mad. A pedestrian got killed by a sedan the other day - tragic for the family - but i bet they don't ban sedans. Do they really expect me to stop at the road train assembly bay and unbolt the bullbar when i come to the city for supplies? What are they asking for? I don't think they are - good stories must be in short supply at the moment.
