Bruder Expedition Pty Ltd, a specialist camper manufacturer, was involved in a legal dispute with a former customer, Mr. Charles J. Coles. Mr. Coles published a website detailing multiple issues with his Bruder camper-trailer, which reportedly cost him over $200,000. Bruder took legal action against Mr. Coles for injurious falsehood, and the court ruled in favour of Bruder by default, as Mr. Coles did not defend his claims.
Additionally, Bruder pursued a separate case against Ms. Tracey Leigh, the administrator of the "Lemon Caravans and RVs in Aus" Facebook group, for allegedly harming their business by publishing false statements about their caravans. The jury initially awarded Bruder $357,000, but Ms. Leigh appealed the ruling, and the Supreme Court of Queensland set aside the original orders. The High Court of Australia later dismissed Bruder's appeal, ending the long-running legal battle.
It's quite a complex case with significant implications for both consumers and manufacturers.
