Hi All, I have a 2023 Dmax and am looking at putting clearviews on them. one site mentions the mirrors are unsuitable if the vehicle has had a GVM upgrade as the indicators are only cat 5.
The Dmax has indicators front, rear, on the mirrors as
well as on the side of the vehicle. I have tried to find the requirements but have been unsuccessful. Anyone able to shed some light on the matter?

Sounds like a lot of bonk to me. What has a GVM upgrade got to do with mirrors?
I had the GVM upgrade done to my 2014 D-Max and then had the dealer fit Clearview mirrors which were fantastic.
Give Clearview a call and see what they say without any Facebook bias.

I received a reply from Clearview.
“Thank you for your email, if your current mirror have a CAT 6 indicator in them then the Clearview mirrors will need to.
When they did the GVM they may have put the indicator in the side guard which means you only need a CAT 5 in the mirrors.
Your GVM may alson have not required a CAT 6 indicator at all, so it is best to speak to who ever did the GVM to work out if you need it or not.
If you need it with CAT 6 indicators you are better off calling the office for a quote or ordering it through a dealer.
Unfortunatley our Website won't allow you to order with a CAT 6 indicator online.”

Apparently with a GVM upgrade you are meant to have cat 6 indicators which you can buy from Clearview to retrofit at $95 each side! As you haven't bought the mirrors yet, just contact Clearview directly and ask to have them supply you with the cat 6 lenses already fitted for your car and hopefully save a little bit?

Just did a quick google with the following result -
"CAT 6 indicators are mandatory for light goods vehicles over 6.0 meters in length, and for all medium goods vehicles with a GVM between 3.5 and 4.5 tons. These are required if your GVM exceeds 3.5 tons and you have 7 or fewer seats."
The GVM upgrade that was done on my D-Max only increased my payload not the weight of the car so I suggest that it does not apply to your D-Max but I would have Clearview confirm one way or the other.

Yes I saw that, and the way I read that is that any vehicle over 6 metres requires it, regardless of it's GVM and also for any medium goods vehicle with a GVM between 3.5 and 4.5 tonnes regardless of it's length? I'll be interested how other interpret it, however I still think it is best to email Clearview directly and get the information from them and if their standard Cat5 mirrors are ok for your vehicle?

The length of the D-Max is 5375 mm and
mine only weighed 2500kg including bullbar, canopy, drawers, full long range
tank etc which to me means that they are not needed.
Again, Clearview should be able to clear this up so please come back and let us know what they say,
Maybe a RAM or such like might fall into this requirement but not a D-Max, BT50 etc.

The GVM is the weight of the loaded ute, so after the GVM up grade I would think that the GVM would now be more then 3.5 t.

GVM upgrade does not add weight to the car so in my case it still weighed 2500kg.

Everything above refers to GVM (loaded) weight, not vehicle Tare (unloaded) weight so cat 6 should apply.
Looks obvious to me, just as Loddo48 said.
I am assuming the GVM upgrade brings it above 3.5t.

Hi Lance D,
I think people are misinterpreting this requirement. It is not the actual weight of the vehicle, it is what it’s registered “rated GVM” has become. In other words, if the
suspension upgrade has increased it’s rated GVM to over 3.5 Tonne, it requires Cat 6 indicators. Clearview mirrors can be ordered with or without Cat 6 indicators.
Macca.
