Rex Ellis
"Rex Ellis was born in 1942, growing up in McLaren Vale, a small town in South Australia. From the age of seventeen he worked on stations in South and Western Australia as a jackaroo, overseer and contract fencer. He began his safari operation in 1965, opening up many regions to tourist safaris. These included the first commercial tourist crossing of the
Simpson Desert [1971] and the only party to cross
Lake Eyre by boat [1974]."

Death announcement
Worth a read......
"It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Rex Ellis on
Easter Sunday.
Rex’s influence on outback tourism in Australia is difficult to overstate. As the country’s longest-serving outback guide, with a remarkable 60 years of experience, he was undeniably a pioneer, blazing
trails in countless areas and inspiring generations of
explorers, travellers, and camel trekkers.
Rex didn’t just blaze the trail, he built the foundations for everything that followed."
Cheers,
Peter
