Here we are, camped at
Tower Rock on MacDonald Downs Station, en route to the Davenport Ranges via the Binns Track, & we see a weather forecast for 75mm + of rain over the area in the next few days,
Looks likely that if we don't change our plans & head to the nearest bitumen today & tomorrow, we could be stuck out here for a potentially lengthy period,
So we are now heading for the
Ali Curung community, hoping to get there tomorrow before the heavier rains eventuate.
Drat & double drat!

We are preparing to leave for the northern Canning.
This is a major rain event.
"As of 11:48 AM on Friday, 23 May, the Bureau of Meteorology has advised that a surface trough over the north-east Indian Ocean will generate a band of rain and cloud across northern and north-west Western Australia from Sunday evening.
This system is expected to bring unseasonal, widespread moderate to heavy rainfall across the Flood Watch area, which includes parts of the West
Kimberley,
Fitzroy River, and Sandy Desert catchments.
While these catchments are currently relatively dry, the rainfall is forecast to be significant:
Rain and storms, with isolated heavy falls, are expected from Sunday evening.
Widespread totals of 100–150 mm, with isolated falls of up to 200 mm, are likely from Sunday to Wednesday.
The peak rainfall is expected on Monday and Tuesday.
This rainfall may lead to rising river levels and hazardous road conditions, particularly on secondary and unsealed roads. Some communities and homesteads may become temporarily isolated.
While significant river flooding is not currently expected, smaller creeks and streams may rise rapidly, making travel through usually dry areas dangerous.
Affected Catchments:
West
Kimberley Rivers
Fitzroy River
Sandy Desert"

Have just parked up for the night about 27km short of
Ali Curung. Nothing salubrious but 'it'll do us'. We'll visit
Ali Curung tomorrow morning & will then be on sealed road when the rain arrives. Still heading north to be at Barunga on 6th. Will have to find some interest between here & there up the Stuart highway.
That is assuming that the northern entry to the Davenport Ranges will likely be closed for a week or longer. Hopefully if we can find the local copper in
Ali Curung, he/she will be able to impart some knowledge of the likely length of impact on the access road.
FWIW, today we had the best 4wd'ing experience we've had in a while, approx 60 or 70kms(?) north from the sandy Bundey
River crossing.
