Hi all, I'm looking for some help or advice please. Currently I'm doing a Post Grad course and this semester is focussing on Australian Architecture 1788-1980, my first essay is going to focus on Vernacular style houses and I would like to use the Huts of the High Country as one example. Does anyone know if there are any publications about that may have the history of these huts. I've also contacted the Victorian High Country Huts Assoc. but am hoping that perhaps someone on this forum may have an interest in them....any ideas or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

cheers

Lyn

Lyn Try a reputable book store and ask for" Huts in the Victorian Alps" written by Klaus Huenke, it shows a lot of huts in great detail. I bought it a month ago as I was interested in catching up on the recontruction of the huts after the 03 bushfires as my great grandfather & his brothers built 2, hence McNamara's Huts

Hope this helps

Cheers Steve Mc

Hi Lyn,
The RACV Magazine had an article about the huts a few editions back and had reference material in it. Mine has been turned into tissues now so cant help you . Someone might have a copy or the web site may help. Good Luck with the Post Grad.

Lyn. The bible on Victorian high country huts is probably Harry Stephenson's "Cattlemen & Huts of the High Plains." It's 350 pages describes them all, the people who built them and includes many photo's as they originally stood.
