For those of you that read or contributed to the post here is the outcome in brief
I was blaming the Carlinkit device. (Wrongly as it turned out)
I tried my Android phone, same drop out disconnect issue with the OEM USB cable.
I tried 2 different USB cables on both devices...same disconnect issue.
So, I blamed my Landcruiser 300 series head unit. I gave up and didn't use it any more but we are travelling and I need my
Exploroz Traveller, its my bible and go to app, I had separation anxiety issues ??. I stepped back and thought it all through over a couple of days.
Then I tried another dedicated USB cable that stated clearly for Charge and DATA use. (I sourced it from a hard drive I had with me)
It worked perfectly!
So, in summary the OEM cable had a fault as it started to send data. The other 2 USB cables I tried had charge capability but limited data transfer.
The moral of this, I guess, is I was too quick to blame the Carlinkit, compounded by testing with 2 USB cable not fit for purpose.
Hopefully this experience might help others in a similar situation of any device that is having issues. Step back and have a sleep or 2 and a few cold ?? as
well!

I had a similar problem with an IPhone and Carlink 9 months ago with a new Toyota and not too old Iphone.
It was working, then changed the USB cable, as I was needing a shorter one.
Carplay stopped working. As it was all new to me, and not realising that the USB cable was critical to succesful operation, I did all sorts of things attempting to get it to function assuming that the phone or head unit were at fault.
After I plugged in the fifth cable I had around the place it all worked, and hasn't failed since.
Just as 'oils ain't oils', nor are USB cables.
