It was announced yesterday that both the Federal and South Australian Governments are co contributing for a new purpose constructed 36 metre barge to replace the old
Cooper Creek barge that has served faithfully for over 50 years.
The new barge will carry B Double Stock trucks/around 8 vehicles per single crossing. If demands are high to get cattle to market, the new barge will run 24/7.
There will be a fee to use the barge but the exact cost is yet to be announced.

I am
well aware of that Peter…but where did they get the news from, it was from my 2025 Outback Floods page.
Arj has been great he has been ringing me regularly and full credit to the ABC, the only news channel to report on it last night on TV and the only journalist to get regular updates posted on the general media.

Ok, so where did I hear it from you ask……
That is very easy, I got it direct from my DIT (Department of
Infrastructure and Transport) contacts, both in
Adelaide and
Port Augusta 12 hours before it was made public and a local MP who I also know.
The fact I have know what was happing over 2 months ago, but was under strict advise that I was not able to say anything until announced by the Government.
So you can see I have known
well before it was ever made public.
So not something I heard from the internet.

Bullsh!t they got it from "Your" facebook page.
There is such things as Media releases by Government Departments that are sent to media outlets.
But you believe you the only human on earth that knows what is happenig with this flood event.

That is really good and it will be finished AFTER this flood so great for a future event. All after the money has been used up with FEEEEEESability studies etc. You wouldn't want to be parked at the COOPER with a B DOUBLE waiting!

The majority of people have no idea on the extent of this flood.
Water still coming down and only recently peaked at Callawonga, south west of
Innamincka, so bucket loads of
water coming down still.
If you are a betting man, you will lose the bet, this new barge will be up and running sooner than you think and are you aware that local talk is the floodwaters will keep the
Birdsville Track closed for up to 8 months.
I have been dealing first hand with Government Officials, MP’s and graziers for months and actually know what I am talking about, and not just second and third hand information.
I just don’t appreciate people making statements that actually have no first hand details or knowledge on what is happening up there.

All very good Stephen, but I don't think it will suddenly appear. Surprised if it is soon. If gov's are now putting in the cash, that doesn't instantly equate to a FERRY after the fund transfer.

The new ferry was paid in full over 2 weeks ago, something that you will not hear in any press release.

At this stage we are banking that it will get used for a minimum of 6-8 months this season, but on past history of
Cooper Creek flooding over the
Birdsville Track, there were records from the late 1940’s and early 1950’s where the
Birdsville track was flooded for 4 years our of 5 and it has never just flooded for just 1 year only, usually 2 years in a row like our last floods back in 2010 and 2011 and the ferry ceased operation in January 2012.
Also the record for the longest closure of the
Birdsville Track that was flooded continuously was 18 months closed to all means of transport, and we are still only very early into this season that we do dot know what can happen around the next corner.
