After 2 years of dreaming about fitting a 6.5 Chevy Diesel to my Cruiser I am now almost to the point where I can do so. Now I'm led to believe that Insurance companies are declining to insure vehicles with this modification despite engineering approval.
Can anyone confirm or deny this rumour for me please?

I had a few problems with the insurance companies when I got the 6.5 installed but after talking to the insurers at length they proceeded to insure the car without too many hassles. The best people to talk to are the guys that will do the installation and ask them to give you the details of the insurance company that they use. The 4WD insurers around however have not been as obliging.
RAC, FAI, SUN and several others didn't seem to have a problem with it after I stressed it was a diesel and not a Petrol 6.5.
Hope this help

Allyn. I'm a member of a Brisbane 4wheel drive club that is affiliated with the Australian body of 4wd clubs. If you are a member of one of these clubs you have access to their insurance broker (TCIS) who will insure practically anything providing your in a club. I don't know your view on 4wd clubs but it is one possibility for you. Derek.

This is a most recent development and I believe it's TCIS leading the charge. Aust 4WD monthly are going to do an article in an upcoming edition so hopefully that can enlighten us all.
thanks for info

Hi Derek,
I tried TCIS and they would not cover the 6.5 chev.??? Not too sure why.
By all means give them a go!
Good luck

Allyn. I have a imported modified vehicle and had a hard time trying to get insurance, company's like NRMA and AAMI just said no.
I'm insured with the Heath Lambert Group (www.hlg.com.au) and had one claim about 6 months ago, my car was fixed quickly without any problems.I would also recommend having a look at Shannons (www.shannons.com.au)
