We have travelled extensively throughout WA over the last 40 odd years, including remote areas. Including Rudall, Len Beadell' tracks. Pilbara, Kimberley etc. Often repeat trips.

We have also visited the NT twice, including Lorella Springs (before individual travelers were shut out.)

Arnhem Land has never been practical owing to mainly time limits and also my impressions that visitors were not encouraged in those years.

It seems that subject to the permit system approvals it is now not that difficult to access.?

If we decide to apply for access to Arnhem Land where would be some "must see" areas? I am after some suggestions of places to visit and experience as much as possible

We are well equipped with communications, a well-equipped 4WD along with similar offroad, off grid caravan so not too concerned about our abilities to deal with the situations as/if any unfold. Having said that situations do go rapidly pear shaped at times, however it is what is if it does.

Our preference is to free camp as much as possible, however I suspect that may be getting as problematic there as in many other places over the years with increased pressure

So, in summary we would love some suggestions as to what / where please

We would enter the NT from the Kununurra entry border.

Life is a journey, it is not how we fall down, it is how we get up.

My understanding is that if you take a van to East Arnhem then you can only camp at two places, both in Nhulunbuy, all the other designated camp sites are for camper trailers or RRT etc etc. No such thing as "free camping" as such, has to be in designated sites. As for West Arnhem, the Coburg Peninsula is nearly all NP and does not allow caravans to enter.

Here you go mate..Should answer most of your questions.https://caravanworld.com.au/blogs/nt-caravan-and-touring-locations/a-road-trip-guide-to-nhulunbuy-in-east-arnhem-land-nt?srsltid=AfmBOooAAoXqpyZLekdtHwLA8P8xiscXvGTo-rddCi63ceLh_JL_hqaq

I lived there for about 18 years. Moved away about 11 years ago. Dont think you will be doing much free camping. Its all permit systems.. Dont travel between December and April...wet season and humidity will piss you right off being a Southener.

Thanks for that. I have just read it,

Doesn't look good for caravan and free camping.

Commonsense is you don't travel in the wet as a tourist.

I have lived and worked in the Kimberley and actually the heat and humidity doesn't bother me at all. Guess I am lucky like that and as you know the wet has a unique beauty all of its own.
