Does anyone know where I can get a good deal on one of those "Outback" 52L plastic water tanks. One 4WD place quoted $430 which seems outrageous for a simple plastic tank/fittings. Am even happy to buy one without the fittings & sort those out for myself. I'm in Melb but will source from interstate if the price is much better

Check out the offerings at Whitworths the marine suppliers. They have at least 3 sizes in the plastic water tanks. Yachties use them.. They are a lot cheaper than the 4x4 shops. Look good but u would need to check out in person. Whitworths is national
The web address is on

Steve,
Whitworths used to be Quin's at Pt
Adelaide, just west of the Birkenhead bridge. They are boat dealers, marine supplies, chandlery, etc.

Mine was for the underneath of my Troopy, cost $500 (cheap compared to ARB 40L @$750 +fitting)
Bloke did a real nice job of it and I would go back again.I had to fit it, but I enjoy a challenge, it's in now and very happy.
I saw the 110L tank he put in behind his backseat in his 80 series, nice job. Took up stuff all room.
Are you interested?

Hi Drew,
You should get the tank your after at Carac's Dandenong Cavavan Accessories, 21 Frankston Road Dandenong Tel 03 97947977. The ALKO 52 litre tank is $90-00 inc GST. It measures 1010 x 330 x 180 mm.
Carac's is the retail supplier for Camec. Go to the website to find the tank your looking for and quote the part number to the people at Carac's. The website is www.camec.com.au, look under plumbing suppliers from memory.
I am going to fit another couple of tanks to my camer trailer, but that means I still have to make the support brackets etc. I think the price will be a lot cheaper doing it my self. - Cheers Anthony.

Hi Austravel,
They use the same type of tank in caravans and camper trailers. The water tastes fine from our existing tank which is about 12 months old.
Some people have had algae grow in the tank but I believe this will only happen if you use clear pipes. The light causing the algae to develop. This can be fixed by using the black poly pipe instead of clear pipes for the filler and pump. - cheers Anthony
