I thought that there was an desire by people to chat and that is what the Exploroz forum had attracted. I have set up a Yahoo Group called Recreation4wd and you can join it and on the left there is a chat option.
I am the only member at the moment and I am sitting there talking to myself.. hahaha

Don't expect anything serious but just a chat..

Do we need another forum? THeres only about 40 Yahoogroups for 4wding in aussie already, + ICQ + MSN + Yahoo messengers.

I think we need less, but better quality and moderated ones.

This place isnt bad as it is, just hook up with other members on ICQ/MSN/Yahoo.

YMMV

You must be a very lonely kid to want to chat all the time. Get in your truck and go for a drive instead.

Talking to yourself is the first sign of madness.....you should know that...being in the business...hehehehe

Sorry Andrew cant agree I think the social atmosphere in this forunm is what keeps it alive so I will be on here with what ever I have to say, and I was just reading the posts of earlier today where people gave there opinions and once the honest answers started to appear they have been deleted !!

Pesty,

I was just catching up with all the crap, read you reply and thought before I would hit the keyboard I would just check more and whammo it is all gone. Now that is the biggest bit of dribble and crap I have come accross since being on EO. Anyway, You said what I was going to say and I agreed 100% .........I think 'cos I can't go back over your post.
Talk about red rag to a bull.....Michelle excelled herself this time.

I agree that the social thing is important and I don't think that Michelle and David wish it to stop. However the chat thing is more like a yak around a campfire - I was online a few minutes ago with Des and John and Maddog and Playdoe just having a bit of a chat. It is a matter of degree really - the extreme chatty stuff can be done on a chat thing and the digs and jokes and normal exploroz stuff can continue there. I probably didn't express myself very clearly so I will give you an example.

I was asking John about whether or not he is going to Robe. I was joking that I am scared Muddy girl might punch me on the nose. Asking about her nature - if she is placid etc. It went to and fro quite a few times ...... that sort of stuff is more suited to 'chat' and the once or twice back and forward like our digs at Ruth and Ian on Big Red are perfect for the forum and would not work on chat.

My brain is frying up - in summary - they are different animals - chat and the forum - like rats and termites or paspalum and blackberries and they do different things. Enough!! Time for sleep.

The other thing - deleting posts - I reckon that they should go when people attack another person rather than the issue. It does not make happy reading when perusing the archives.

Andrew

Agreee with you guys here Pesty, Andrew and David. The whole site needs to be kept social and attractive. Part of that is the way in which the interchanges go between folks where ever they are and some will undoubtedly be seen as crap.

The site needs to be attractive to a wide range of people including the women that are starting to inhabit the site and be excellent contributers. Imagine if all the talk was 4bys and camping. I have seen contributions on using Cobbs and cast ovens and that is essential to make sure the readership and resulting membership is wide.

Yes, I too was on with Andrew earlier in the chat room and it will cater for some of the communication for a little while. I guess Michelle decided to read all the posts sand saw it as a waste of time, where in the past David said he does not waste his time doing it. I only read the ones that look interesting and can't think why you would go into some........

Hi David I would have thought that constuctive criticism would be good for any forum and business, but to delete it from public veiwing when the honest answers come out I dont agree with.
I know what Andrew is trying to do, but driving the regulars that play a big part in keeping this forum alive to another site doesnt make sence to me. How many members have we generated on this forum in recent times and who benefits from it ?
I was annoyed about the closet supporters, but I am even more annoyed about the posts disappearing.
Get ready as this one will probably go too.
Might have to change what was to be an EO weekend in Sept. to the Teddy Bears Pcnic after all.

The sun is up in Melbourne - a new day. And first up I checked exploroz like usual! Hopefully all our friends are still here, there will be just as many posts as usual but the chat that we want to do can be done in a chat room.

I think that Michelle and David should delete posts when they become hostile or personal. It is where you draw the line on the crap stakes and we will all have our own line. David and Michelle have people saying that too much crap turns them off and people have posted they feel that. They have to walk a middle ground - a difficult thing to do. All they are saying is cut back at the extreme which does not upset me - though I was the naughty boy who posted the 'a' followup!

Have a great day

Andrew

I don't know about anyone else but i'll be here for long time yet, reguardless of how many other chats forums and so on are on the web, i found this site to be the most informative, fun and social site on the web. I did not know much about puters let alone forums and chat sites and found this very easy to use, in fact after joining as a visitor that was when i found out about other forums, so i tried them and well that was when i decided to join EO as a member, i am still a member of these other forums and go to them now and then but none of them come even close to EO. This is just my opinion not intended to offend members of other forums.

Barry.

That's a Shame Pesty.
Wolfie was one of the colourful characters on this site who added a bit of sparkle but Michelle has stated she doesn't want the idle chit chat on here and that was what Wolfie enjoyed. I hope he finds another good home.

Anyway better stop before I get spanked :)

WS, theres no need to hang it on Michelle. Wolfie decided, not Michelle. All she (rightly or wrongly) did was draw a line in the sand. Not kick over a sandcastle!

Hi Guys,

I'm not one for normally getting involved in simple "chat", but I do like to contribute to forum questions on topics or "newsworthy" items from members eg. Roachies new hair cut. Some of the topics lately have been a bit off key, but IMHO you must cut a thread once it becomes a directed personal attack towards an individual (regardless of some of that individuals previous threads).

But I think its a real SHAME that wolfie has gone. He came from virtually nowhere and was a real popular personality. I do hope he has simple gone into a winter hibernation and will reappear!!!

Just my opinion

Captain

After using the chat thing last night I am not sure I like it

three reasons:
1) you need to be able to type really quick
2) especially if there are a few chatters the conversation gets very hard to follow
3) You have to be there at the time

EO's system provides a permanent record of converstaions that can be browsed and searched at any time. you can be away for a week and then come back and catch up.

Chat has it's place if two or members want to discuss something or dribble at each other but I must say I prefer the EO format and will be sticking with it.

Thanks Andrew for opening the eyes on how chat works. always knew it was there but never actually had a go at it. Interesting!

Come back Wolfie - we all love you!!!!!

It's been a pretty ordinary 24 hours.

Insults, precocious behaviour, slander and censorship.

It's very sad that Wolfie's gone. But I won't be. I'll continue to enjoy the company and exchange of information. Might even try to have some fun, if permitted.

i dont think any of you people get the idea behind what andrew did.
david and michelle dont like the private chats that commonly happen through a post.fair enough.
all andrew is doing is giving people a chance to talk amongst themselves with out having a post that starts of about the roads to timbucktwo and then half way through the post you will find 2-3 peopple just chatting between themselves about nothing to do with the original post.
andrews chat room is not going to stop people asking questions or responding on exploroz nothing will.
so if you wanna talk a little crap go to the chat room saves all the banter on the forum wich i think is the main problem.
stick with it andrew.
