Has anyone used a 'Meater' thermometer in a closed
camp oven? I'm interested in whether the signal gets through the steel for a usable range. I understand that the oven will act somewhat like a Faraday cage, but only after real-world experience. Not theory or untested opinions, please.

Tony, not exactly what you were asking for but I used a thermometer in a Travel Buddy type oven in the back of my ute.. the result was spasmotic, but the results may be affected by the quality of the thermometer and the surrounds,
mine was an inexpensive one unlike Some costing upwards of $200 .

What about a visual temp gauge Nick like in the Webber BBQ but you would have to drill a hole in the door.

Hi Batts,
That is only going to tell you the temperature of the inside of the
camp oven. I think Tony is interested in a thermometer or temperature probe that you insert into the meat. The one he has nominated, “Meater”, is a wireless temperature probe, that has connectivity back to an external monitor or your phone.
I really do not think the signal would get through 5mm of cast iron
camp over, although it get through a spun steel
camp oven.
Macca.

Thanks Batt, That would work fine and I might even consider that as long as it doesn't fortrude into the cooking cabin reducing space for trays.. but the idea here is you can monitor it remotely through an app .
I find these days that I'm using it mainly for just reheating inc frozen meals and pies etc So a thermometer is not a necessity for me and they are a to slow for general cooking imo
Cheers

Tony, this is the answer I got from a Meater seller. Using a MEATER+ in a heavy
camp oven is tough. The solid metal blocks the Bluetooth signal. The probe's maximum open-air range of 50 m drops to just 1-2 m. You must place the wooden charger (the repeater) within arms reach of the
camp oven to keep the signal active. Note, that is for the Meater +
