Dx patrol's cookie cutter wheels are larger in diameter, is this reflected on the tyre placard? the dx is listed as having 25mm extra clearence, how much of this is from the tyres/wheels?
I believe the same may apply to the standard cruiser and the 100 series.
question - can you legally fit a taller tyre to a dx than st?

Under "Weights and Dimensions" it states the DX clearance as 230mm and all else as 210mm.
Wheels and tyres is under "Mechanical"
Patrol specs
I thought it was interesting that a 3.0 ST Patrol cost pretty much the same as a 3.0 GXL Prado. Guess all that electronic stuff and constant 4x4 adds up in the Prado.

Hello
Out of pure curiosity..from what source/reference have you acquired this information i.e. How do you know that "most people get the tyre placard from dx" and more importantly how do you know they're only acting ? :))
Cheers

greg i think you took my response the wrong way.
after years in the tyre buisness and people wanting to put bigger tyres on and after explaining to them the legallitys of bigger tyres and people saying but that model has bigger tyres.
well you can always go buy a tyre placard from that perticular vehicle that will widen your options.
when i say acting dumb.
oh i dunno whats suposed to be on here i went to the tyre place and they looked at the placard and told me i can put this tyre on.
and i didnt really mean most that was just what came to mind while typing.
does this help you at all :-))))

The handbook for my ST 4.2 lists every tyre combo including 750R16 and
265/75 16. That was enough for me without wrangling a placard from a DX.
I fitted 285/75 16 BFG AT on this basis as they measured 825mm verses the standard for 750R16 which is 812 mm. Therefore the 13mm increase is within the 15mm max allowed by the RTA.

Placard only says what was fitted when I picked it up ie 265/70 16
The handbook for the car lists tyre sizes and I am happy to go to court with the insurance or
police over that issue.
Also I spoke to an engineer before I picked it up as I was anticipating the need for a certificate to fit the 285/75 16 tyres to it. he was not interested in wasting his time to do it. He said there was no reason I could not fit them in his view as long as the speedo error was acceptable and noted! When I told him the dealer was happy to fit thetyres before I picked it up he was even happier that there was no point.
I kept notes on these conversations also and if needs be he will be first wittness.
I even spoke to the RTA and argued that a blanket 15mm change was greater percentage on small car tyres and very little on a 4x4. They agreed but pushed the party line as they have to. I think I convinced him to take it up but its such a big bureaucracy it will never happen.
Cheers
Jamie

"question - can you legally fit a taller tyre to a dx than st?"
schevchenko, the simple answer is no. You can fit the same "largest" wheel/tyre to all models of Patrols.
For some time now, it has been a practice for Nissan to provide (for about $11) a replacement tyre placard for the Patrol that specifies the largest wheel/tyre combo for the Patrol range (that being the wheel/tyre combo offered on the cab-chasis variant). Since the DX, ST, ST-L, Ti and Cab-chasis are all from the same model range, this is legal.
The 265/75/16 wheels/tyres on the cab-chasis are the largest in the range with a nominal overall diameter of 804 mm (a mm or so larger than most 7.50R16 tyres). You can go up 15 mm to 819 mm (or nominally a 275/75/16), depending on your state's regulations, on all models of Patrols.
For specifics, search the archives for a number of threads on this topic.

Thanks WELL55
All 3 we have here are 275x70x16 on placard incl ST4.2, ST3.0, DX3.0
BUT even the DX has optional wide wheel pack
re your DX4.2 is it narrow wheels if so what does it say on placard?

If you do a
site search there should be a post which has the tyre placard item number on it which will allow you to fit any tyre size from the range on your Patrol. It costs betwen $11 and $15 depending on where you buy. The tyre placards are in the glovebox. i think it allows you to go to 285/75 -16 legally
