K'GARI in school holidays

l'm up that way at the start of the school holidays and are thinking of going there. Has anyone been there during school holidays and able to tell me how busy it get during that time. I know there is busy and then there is busy busy which would tend us to have second thoughts and go elsewhere. With now higher fuel prices coming may be fewer people over there during the holidays. Maybe hard to answer but any thoughts could help us decide where we end up.

School holidays are always a busy time on K'gari. Being local I can choose to avoid them.
According to a couple of recent reports from locals fuel prices have not caused a drop in numbers.
I just came back to the Sunshine Coast from a couple of weeks at
Airlie Beach and the roads seem to have usual traffic loads.
I would suggest you avoid weekends when the numbers rise with locals.

The dingos on k'gari have become much more pesky in recent times. There are campgrounds with
dingo-proof fences but you would need to book and availability may be difficult in the school holiday times.
If you
camp outside of those fences you just need to be more diligent.

Hi Murray,
There is a couple that manage the Sailfish on Fraser K’Gari resort on the Eastern side of the island. They have a Facebook page (sorry Allan) called Indefinite Leave, if you look them up they may be able to advise you of the best time to be up there. They can also advise you on how to get around some of the Rocky section of
the beach.

Having walked for 5 days down the centre of the island, I found the interior far less crowded once you get away from Lake Mackenzie (and the coast).
Most people head for Lake Mackenzie, the east coast beach attractions and zoom up and down
the beach leaving the beautiful forested central section relatively vacant.
Have a look at the EO Topo map for the numerous inland options.
