Hi Guys,

I trying to route from Wyndham via Perry Creek rd and over Ivanhoe Crossing to Kunnunurra but it wants to route me down Valentine Springs rd and not over the crossing. Is there a trick to routing across the crossing to Kunnunurra?

It has been closed more often than it has been open the last few times I have been there, so first thing is to check that it is actually open.
Then have a back-up plan because it might be different when you actually get there.

By making the last section from "Old Station Billabong" to "Ivanhoe Crossing" cycling then back to driving the last leg into Kununurra it will go that way.

You wouldn't want to cycle the crossing ...

I suspect they have changed how they manage Ivanhoe Crossing in recent years.
Historically it was necessary to personally consider and assess the water flow to establish if it was in fact safe to cross with any vehicle, and a high number made an error with that assessment and got washed off the causeway.
One time years ago when we crossed, there was a tow truck parked at one end, just waiting for the next customer, who the driver knew, would be along soon.
In more recent years, they seem to close the crossing before it gets toooo deep. Lighter/lower vehicles still need to make their own assessment and take greater care though.
This lousy pic is a screen shot from an old vid of our F350 4WD going across. The bollards give an indication of depth. The trailer was towing at a noticeable angle from the Ford.
There are also salties ...............

Cheers,
Peter
