We are going for three days to the Bunya Mountains (Qld). Does anyone know of any short (half day) 4wd trips in the area or any must see places?

There is a Place called the Diggings .From memory you turn in from Nanango -East and come back down the old Cobb & Co Coach Road. You will have to ask the locals to get better directions. You can follow this through to come back out on the road at Moore. Also the Blackbutt Range down to Emu Creek camp ground is a nice day run . Talk with the forrestry people probably stationed at Yarraman or Nanango. You can travel through the forrest their but you must obtain a permit first .

Emu creek has been closed because there is no water . No creek water, No tank water . There is a closed sign on the highway .

Do not know of any 4WD tracks but if you go up to the Bunya Mountains NP there are a lot of good walking tracks. Pick up an information sheet from the Rangers office. If you want to camp in the NP you will need to book in advance through www.epa.qld.gov.au web site or through their HO in Brisbane. This is the same for most Queensland NP's now. Stupid really. Be prepared it will be cold and on top of the mountain it will be wet. There are three camp sites, Dandebah, Westcott and Burtons Well. The latter two have fireplaces with wood suppied (as long as no one has pinched it!). The road up there is steep, not suitable for caravans. There are some spectacular views. The trip is worth doing just to see the Bunya Pines.

There are cabins up there you can rent plus a "hotel". For bookings use RACQ.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Yes, I've had a look at some maps and I think we'll visit the diggings on the way to or from the mountains and perhaps try emu creek if it's open. Mostly we will be just doing the walking trails which are spectacular I'm told.
