Hi,

I want to sell my 1991 ST patrol wagon it's the RB30 version. Has done 266,000klm has had many parts replaced including clutch, radiator, power steering etc. Has many extras including nissan wide wheel and flare pack, rear _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx and fridge slide, b/bar, t/bar, side steps, long range tank, stainless water tank, 2 inch lift, motson's performance increase, UHF, roof rack and much more.

The Red Book gives me a figure of up to $10,500 but I'd assume that's as a basic unit, correct me if I'm wrong. So how much do I put on for all the extras? I'm thinking of putting on $14,000 is that to much, what do I go come down to??

I didn't really want to take off all the extras and sell separately but maybe that's an option.

Maybe you've brought something similar recently, what price did you pay.

Any help much appreciated.

Hello i bought a 90 gu 4.2 with 230k yesterday absolutely perfect condition throughout. Not a fingerprint on it anywhere, paid $11000 rang up aami to insure they said its correct value is $12300 which they insured it for even after being advised i paid $11000 for it at a dealer no trade in.
Redbook is best quide imo.Where are you located some places are dearer than others,i am in illawarra nsw.
For me accessories on vehicle wouldnt add more than 30% of their cost but others will have different views,i think you might get more selling extras seperately, but thats just me.

Depends on where you are...

You may get more, or less.

If you intend on upgrading, I'd remove some of the accessories so you don't have to buy them again if at all possible and sell some of the accessories ie. rear storage _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx if a brandname at your cost less 300-500 green ones.

Good luck!

Chris.

Bloke in our club in Melb, rolled his GQ TD42 up the North Qld, bought a RB30 cheap to continue his 6 week holiday.. Came home, and tried to sell it, couldnt give it away in the end, traded it and got $4000 for it. Stock no accessories, but couldnt sell it privately at all.

The RB is not highly sought after. $14,000 IMHO NFC... but if you find the right person...

Check trading post, you can get 4.2's for less, or with accessories for $14k...

Might be better to flog the accessories seperately, and trade the car, or sell it stock.

Hi Austravel . Sorry but the RB30 wont fetch that kind of money unless you have them at gunpoint . If I were you . I would try and sell your accessories separate .
If you were going to sell the vehicle wholesale , you would get between 5 and 6 K
As a trade in they might give you more , if they have enough puff in the other car . Either way your going to loose big money within the trade. Put in in the local trader and try sell it privately

If you do decide to sell accessories seperately, IM keen for fridge slide, long range tank (can swap mine for yours) and stainless water tank..
Have cash ready if interested.

I'm in Rockhampton so probably to far to transport heavy or bulky items. The other items are smaller and/or woudn't be taken off such as tint, endrust, front insect screen etc.

Hi,

Thought you had your own transport (from previous message above). If not I doubt it will be worth your while, I wouldn't even guess what it would cost. Willing to negotiate on the price but not by much as the unit cost me $880 to get made up plus the pump at $140 and all the fittings etc. It's based on the one you used to be able to buy, they don't sell them anymore.

Thanks all for your honest comments. Bit of a pity when they really are quite a good rig once you get a couple of mods done to the carby etc. They really perform when let breath and with carby mods. May very well strip it and sell it bare.

Thanks

Hi Crocbit,

Extractors and full flow system makes it breath easier. The secondaries are brought in earlier, rejetted, advance the timing to 21 deg and remove the carby heating element. All this made a big difference to the vehicle.

Thanks, Did you do the work or get it done? I may have a problem finding a "good" carby place here in Darwin, may have to send it away. Would appreciate any fine details you can provide, maybe do it meself?

Hi,

All the work was done by Motson's in Brisbane all up cost 10 years ago was approx $1,400 and they had the car for the full day. Made a big difference, I took it back to the Nissan dealer and asked him what he thought and they were very surprised. Fuel consumption seemed to be the same (bad). Basically unless they know what they are trying to do then a normal mechanic etc won't know what to do. These guys do research and testing on what extra gains they can get out of standard vehicles and all work is carried out on a dyno then they market the technique. Sounds like I own the place!! I don't, but their workmanship is great. I'm considering getting their power up package for the 4.2 turbo diesel. The other thing is that there are extractors and extractors, they only used gennie and used a mandrel bent exhaust. I'd have to check but I think it was a 10%increase in torque and more than that in power, the major benifet was just how easily and quickly it seemed to rev out with the mods.

I guess one option is if I can't sell the car in the near future we could discuss swapping the carbies and extractors/manifold and a bit of cash. Everything should just swap over.

Be aware that there is a small cloth filter in the vacuum line that if never changed will stuff up the vacuum advance. It sits near the thermostat housing.

Lot of the goodies for VL Commodores bolts on to this motor.. also NISMO crap too for the Skyline that shared this motor with the VL and the GQ..
You can get them to fly, but its all $$... easier and cheaper to do an engine swap with a V8

True Truckster,

I have noted similar threads in the EO forum archive, (where incidentally I got some REALLY GOOD INFO from EO contributors re the RB30 - my motive to join as a member).

However as it is recommended you upgrade the gearbox (300ZX type) as well as the V8 conversion, the additionl 12-14,000 dollars just doesn't get there (until of course the existing motor carks it!!) Mine has 180,000 and still going strong, GRR, central Aust & elsewhere through NT etc

However with the news broadcast today that it is feasible we could be paying $3 per litre sometime in the next few years, any improvement fuel consumption wise is looking good - maybe convert to steam lol

I intend to stay with the Datsun (oops - Nissan) til it gives out, if it's anything like my old 1968 Datsun 1600 and subsequence 180B SSS _ you couldn't kill 'em with a stick!)

I heard the same New story!

Nearly crashed the car!

It was some oil expert, stating that if things go at their worst, then $3 a ltr is will be!!!!

Then everyone will be on bikes!

Croc,
yea was only sorta jokin on the conversion, but yea, VL Turbo Motors drop straight in to the GQ with RB in it.. could be a worthy mod!

Austravel,

I'm also a Rocky local and I am VERY interested in accessories, particularly - LR Tank, Water Tank, Drawers/Slide (no freight worries for me - Sorry Truckster !). Can arrange fuel tank swap if required and will pay CASH.

If you're serious about stripping before selling I'm serious about buying (as long as the price is reasonable of course).

Here's hoping ...

Hi CQ_GQ,

I'm trying for a few weeks to just sell as is but this may change as well. The idea of just stripping and selling accessories and car separately are starting to appeal. Can you give me your contact details and we can have a chat about what I have and what $$ I was thinking of.
